5 sensual makeup looks to bowl over your Valentine’s date

Royal flush

Beauty inspo: Sonia Chew
The focus here is on the cheeks, specifically a heightened, contoured layering of colour that not only magically makes your cheekbones look higher, but also looks like a naughty post-romp flush.

How to create the look:
For a sensual flush that won’t fade throughout the date, layer a little cream blusher underneath a powder blusher before setting with loose powder. Opt for a peachy-nude shade for a more natural effect, or go for a bolder colour like hot pink or bronze shades for a more pronounced flush. We recommend a hit of sheer shimmery highlighter on tops of the cheeks and the brow bone for extra glow and facial definition.

Try these:
Nars NARSissist limited-edition Unfiltered II Cheek Palette, $90
NARS limited-edition Sheer Pop Multiple in Motutane, $60
Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow, $62

Petal-pink lips

Petal-pink lips

Style inspo: Tanya Chua
We adore dramatic red lips but even we will admit that it can be a hindrance to, well, smooching. The friendlier alternative is the petal-pink lippie. Light-pink hues look sweet and softly feminine, especially in a sheer lip gloss, but for more grown-up sensuality, we like the brighter hibiscus-pink and metallic versions. Go the extra mile with a budge-proof formula, like the new Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color that stayed on even after a really oily bowl of aglio olio.

How to create the look:
A pinky-nude, glossy lip is a classic first-date look - it not only universally flattering, but gives a sensual bare-naked effect. For more of an impact, do like Tanya and go for a matte lip in a punchier pure-pink shade that looks as sexy as a red lip, but coming across too full-on.

Try these:
NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Suck, $40
Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Saint, $37
Urban Decay Nocturnal Vice Lipstick in Fireball, $29

Sensual waves

Sensual waves

Style inspo: Hong Ling
Softly voluminous waves just automatically looks sexier than straight hair. But crunchy curls are a real turnoff, so keep it touchable and loosely tumbling.

How to create the look:
A good curling iron or blowdry brush for curls and a thermal-protecting leave-on conditioner is all you need to create temporarily come-hither hair, topped off with a hair spray that doesn’t make you hair smell of chemicals or make it stiff as a board. Slightly damp, freshly cleansed hair is easiest to style, and focus on just curling the lower half of your hair length. The bigger the curling tong or brush is, the looser the curls.

Try these:
Ouai Haircare Soft Hair Spray, $39
Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Smoothing Hydra-Gelee Nourishing Hair Perfector, price unavailable
ghd Ceramic Vented Radial Brush (Size 3), $40

Walking the line

Walking the line

Style inspo: Jean Danker
If you’ve never discovered the eye-opening wonders of eyeliner, then we say, you’re welcome. Plus, if you’re not keen on a strong lip colour, then an intense or eye-catching eyeliner is all you need to up your makeup game.

How to create the look:
Some women swear by black eyeliner – and it does a fantastic job of making the eyes look bigger and brighter. But if you yearn for a more adventurous eyeliner look, opt for a bold colour like green or purple. Conversely, a dark brown eyeliner gives the same eye-widening effect but in a more natural way.

Try these:
Shu Uemura Lasting Soft Gel Pencil in Intense Black, $37
Hourglass Voyeur Waterproof Liquid Liner, $71
Sephora Collection Easy Smoky Eye in Mystic Brown, $20
Lunasol Shiny Pencil Eyeliner in Mint Green, Sky Blue and Grape, $32 each

Twinkly eyes

Twinkly eyes

Style inspo: Hayley Woo
Sparkly eyes? So kawaii! A hit among young Japanese and Korean women, shimmery eyeshadows in sweet pastel hues, like the pink ones that Hayley is sporting, are spot-on for lending a youthful spark to the face.

How to create the look:
Layer at least two to three shades of the same colour for gradient, otherwise just one shade of shimmery eyeshadow can make the eyes look one-dimensional and smaller. For more grown-up sophistication, we love the edgy drama of darker, sultry eye colours spiked with metallic particles.

Try these:
Urban Decay Nocturnal Shadow Box, $52
RMK Face Pop Eyes in No. 01, $58
Lunasol Colorful Sky Eyes in Colorful, $77
