The most stylish MPs at NDP 2017

Our local politicians showed off their stylish side at this year's National Day Parade, with many opting to #supportlocal by picking pieces from Singaporean fashion labels or custom designs by young local designers. Never let it be said that our MPs are obiang, hor!

Grace Fu

Grace Fu looked ultra-chic in her outfit from local label Ying the Label, which is part of a special capsule collection that reflects Singapore’s identity. Her shift dress and scarf combi was the perfect combination of smart-casual and is breezy enough to wear in the balmy heat of the floating platform.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

PM Lee changed out of the pink shirt that he wore backstage to this simple red one for the actual Parade. We prefer the pink one, although this shirt does have some cute touches, like the white details on the sleeves and shoulders.

Cheng Li Hui

Cheng Li Hui made a bold fashion statement in the hottest trend of the season – stripes. Her red-and-white striped sleeveless dress is fresh, youthful and definitely helped her to stand out of the crowd of red and white.

Baey Yam Keng

Trust Baey Yam Keng, Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth, to up the style stakes every year. His head-turning linen Nehru-collared Kurta was custom-designed by LaSalle graduate Yong De Han, and features “12 embroidered Vanda Miss Joaquim flower motifs amidst intertwined plant stalks. The 12 flowers carry a total of 52 opened sepals and petals, signifying Singapore’s 52nd National Day,” revealed Baey in a Facebook post. Love!

Tin Pei Ling

Ooh la la! Tin Pei Ling dons yet another cheongsam at this year’s NDP, and although we prefer last year’s more unique red-and-white number, she still cuts a svelte figure in this slinky red silk version. One tip though – ditch the white, getai-looking gauze shawl.

The Sembawang GRC MP looked utterly dashing in his hand-painted Ying the Label shirt, from the special capsule collection that his wife Faye was involved in creating. Whoever said that men should shun pink florals?

Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP Josephine Teo also opted for a top from Ying the Label’s capsule collection which features a flattering peplum cut and gorgeous, delicate hand-painted orchids and floral buttons. Now if only she’d swopped out her maroon trousers for one in a matching fiery-red hue instead.

The Marine Parade GRC MP’s intriguing, print shirt features little blooms and Peranakan-looking designs – a bold style choice that succeeds in making him look younger than many of his neighbours on the stadium stands.

The ever-elegant Senior Minister of State Amy Khor looks utterly polished in this red-and-white shift dress featuring a red lace overlay on one side. Top marks for the matching red lippie too.

Darryl David’s coral pink cotton embroidered shirt is not just cool in the literal sense, but also looks quite figuratively cool in the sea of uncle-type polo tees.

“It is a day to wear our heart on our sleeve,” declared Sembawang GRC MP Amrin Amin. And he did indeed, with this shirt featuring the Malay songket fabric designed by local designer Raffiey Nasir.

The Nominated MP and The Thought Collective co-founder went for a Tropicana vibe with a floral motif top with jeans and a seashell-looking necklace, lending a much needed dose of youthful style in the MP mix this year.
