8 local dramas that will make you hungry

Singapore is a foodie nation so it is not surprising that shows about food, or at least with food as an intricate part of the story, are a hit with viewers. Here are 8 dramas that foodies would appreciate.

Double Happiness

What you will crave: Fish and chips

It’s hard not to be tempted when you see the staff at Happy Fish dishing out plates and plates of golden battered (and huge) fish and chips in almost every episode. And the best part is, they taste as good as they look. How do we know? The fish and chips in the show were from the Western food stall at the Mediacorp canteen.

Served H.O.T

What you will crave: Local fare

Served H.O.T is a delectable feast for the eyes. Apart from eye candies in the form of hot, young chefs played by Aloysius Pang, Ian Fang, Shane Pow, and Ya Hui, watching them hone their cooking skills, whipping up all sorts of local fare from laksa and char kway teow to prawn noodles - in dramatic fashion, no less - will send your stomach rumbling. But the dish that really got us drooling is Nanyang eatery’s fist-sized siew mai, which is made with leftover fried rice, char siew, shrimp, and whole lot of heart.

Holland V

What you will crave: Nasi lemak

It’s a good thing that Holland V, a drama that revolves around the Mo family who run a popular nasi lemak stall in Holland Village, used to show during dinner time, because watching the siblings serve and devour plates of the local favourite always put us in full blown carb-craving mode. Don’t even get us started on those fried chicken wings.

Blessings

What you will crave: Tau sar piah

Blessings sparked a mini tau sar piah (mung bean pastry) craze in our office when the show aired in 2014. The traditional Teochew pastries, which the actors were seen making and selling in their drama, became our go-to snack for tea and we even swung by Balestier Road for a pastry run when the craving hit.
