If local stars were ice cream flavours

After countless memes, former US vice president and ice cream fanatic Joe Biden is finally getting his own ice cream flavour.

Inspired by Biden’s favourite flavour, old-fashioned chocolate chip, Cornell University's dairy processing plant, Cornell Dairy, will be creating a vanilla-based ice cream filled with chocolate chips for Biden, who will be speaking at the University's convocation ceremony on May 27.

While we neither have the ability nor the connections to create a frozen treat inspired by our own local celebrities, the news got us thinking: if the stars were ice cream flavours, what would they be? Naturally, we came up with a list of flavours based on the celebs' personalities.

Ya Hui: Vanilla

Ya Hui: Vanilla

Simple, inoffensive, and ubiquitous, vanilla is a flavour that people can never really tire of. Despite not always having the spotlight, it works well with other flavours and can add an extra bit of “oomph” to an apple pie or a brownie. Sounds like our ever-dependable Ya Hui!

Jeanette: French Vanilla

AKA atas vanilla: benign, but with an extra touch of maturity that sets it apart from other vanilla-based flavours.

Rui En: Durian

Rui En: Durian

Like the king of fruits, Rui En can come across as thorny and controversial. Despite the bad rap, she is extremely popular and those who love her, really love her.

Felicia Chin and Jeffrey Xu: Cookies & Cream

When it comes to flavour duos, only this pairing is as saccharine as besotted lovebirds Felicia and Jeffrey.

Christopher Lee, Fann Wong, and Zed: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Christopher Lee, Fann Wong, and Zed: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

As veteran artistes, Chris is clearly the chocolate chip to Fann’s vanilla. Put these two together and what do you get? Chocolate chip ice cream. While this flavour duo is fine on its own, the addition of cookie dough (a.k.a. a sweet little boy named Zed) elevates it to a whole new level of celebrity.

Like chocolate, Ah Jie is timeless, classy, and universally beloved.

Bonnie Loo: Strawberry

Bonnie Loo: Strawberry

Sweet, summery and loved by kids and adults alike, strawberry has Bonnie’s name written all over it. And did we mention that pink is also her fan club’s official colour?

Jeremy Chan and Jesseca Liu: Mint chocolate chip

Jeremy Chan and Jesseca Liu: Mint chocolate chip

While these two might seem like an unlikely pair – Jeremy being the chocolate chip to Jesseca’s mint – together, they are both sweet and refreshing.

Paige Chua: Matcha

Paige Chua: Matcha

Paige isn’t nicknamed ‘Guanyin Ma’ for no reason. Like green tea, Paige has a calming and zen effect on those around her.

Jayley Woo, Carrie Wong, Hayley Woo: Ice cream sandwich

Jayley Woo, Carrie Wong, Hayley Woo: Ice cream sandwich

With Carrie as the ice cream to Jayley and Hayley's biscuits, we hope that this sweet trio sticks together forever.

Rebecca Lim and Ian Fang: Salted Gula Melaka

Like salted gula melaka, BFFs Becks and Ian are a delightful balance of sweet and savoury, and their unexpected friendship is wildly complex and intriguing. Guess this is what they call opposites attract!

Zheng Geping: Rocky Road

Zheng Geping: Rocky Road

He might look gruff and tough on the outside, but once you step closer, you’ll realise that the loveable Geping is full of marshmallows.

Rosalyn Lee: Charcoal

Rosalyn Lee: Charcoal

Black, cold, and unappetizing-looking, charcoal ice cream is not something people will be drawn to at first sight. But once you give it a try, you will realise that it is sweeter and not as intimidating as it looks, like Mediacorp’s resident rock chick and goth princess, Rozz.
