Para-athletes got a surprise visitor Sunday evening (Dec 6) when international icon and English former footballer David Beckham popped by to catch a match at the 8th ASEAN Para Games.

Beckham not only surprised the athletes, but spectators as well, when he visited a football five-a-side match between Singapore and Thailand at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. He said it was “inspiring to see athletes pursue their passion with such great desire”.

“There is no bigger honour than having the opportunity to represent your country,” he said. “The sporting spirit is very much alive at the Games Village and I am privileged to have the chance to meet these incredible people.”

“The 8th ASEAN Para Games is more than just about competing. It is about connecting individuals, communities and countries to our dreams,” added Mr Lim Teck Yin, Chairman of the Singapore APG Organising Committee Exco. “David Beckham’s presence today has been uplifting and certainly rewarding to the athletes and fans at the Games.
