River Hongbao celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and is pulling out all the stops with the largest lantern and fireworks display ever.

Illuminating The Float @ Marina Bay are more than 60 larger-than-life lanterns, including a giant mural wall and Monkey King lantern at the seating gallery.

Other familiar favourites include the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and God of Fortune, which will sprinkle gold confetti four times every night. There will also be Journey to the West-themed displays and performances to celebrate the Year of the Monkey.

Unlike previous years when fireworks are only set off twice during the carnival, visitors can enjoy dazzling displays on all nine days of the festival. Lasting three-minutes, the fireworks will be held at 9 pm every night from Feb 6 to 14, except Chinese New Year eve when it comes on at midnight.

And these aren’t any ordinary fireworks. Set off at close proximity and choreographed with music, laser and fire, David Ong, vice-chairman for River Hongbao and MP for Bukit Batok SMC, said the close-up display is like a show and “people will feel like they are part of it”.

River Hongbao opens from 2 pm to 11 pm daily, except on the eve of Chinese New Year, when it will closes at 1 am. Admission is free.

Visitors will be able to see how River Hongbao (RHB) has evolved in the past 29 years in the photo exhibition.

Did you know that the first RHB was held at the Singapore River in 1987? There was even a light-adorned float exhibit as part of the display.
