The 28th SEA Games kicked off with a bang at the National Stadium last night (Jun 5) as Singapore hosts its first Games since 1993.

The opening ceremony, the largest and most spectacular event at the Stadium, featured light shows, aerial stunts as well as performances by Singapore’s Dick Lee, violinist Siow Lee Chin and former Singapore Idol contestant Daphne Khoo. Former Singapore athletes such as swimmer Ang Peng Siong, bowler Grace Young and sailor Ben Tan were also honoured during the two and a half hour show.

The night was rounded off by a dazzling fireworks display after the cauldron of fire was lit by football legend Fandi Ahmad and his son Irfan. Read on for the highlights from the ceremony.

Watch the opening ceremony on Toggle's Catch-Up TV.
