SINGAPORE: Project 4650 revolves around an interim housing project in Bedok South to help homeless families in Singapore and it is also the title of a four-part series that is set to air on Friday (Sep 25) at 9.30pm on MediaCorp's Channel 5.

MediaCorp's On the Red Dot looks at the schemes that are available to help needy families living in interim rental housing in Blocks 46 and 50 in Bedok South. Currently, voluntary welfare organisation PAVE tends to the needs of the residents.

Minister of State for National Development Maliki Osman oversees Project 4650 in his capacity as Mayor for South East District. He attended a preview screening of the series at the National Library on Tuesday.

"A lot of times, you get feedback that Singaporeans are apathetic," said Mr Maliki. "(You get) feedback that there are lots of social issues and social problems out there, and (people asking) who is handling all these problems.

"What P4650 showed through the programme is how different stakeholders come together, the community, Government agencies coming together with the same cause. I think we need more of such programmes to inspire others to come forward."
