Sephora Teint Infusion Ethereal Natural Finish Foundation, $32.

The Verdict: I’m not a regular foundation user as I find it too thick, but this was really light and spread easily. It felt like I was applying light moisturiser, and I didn’t feel like I was wearing any foundation at all. A little went a long way and I didn’t need a brush for an even application. It gave my skin a beautiful, soft-focus finish. There were no need for touch-ups — it could last up to 12 hours — and the colour was a perfect match for my skin.

Yves Saint Laurent Fusion Ink Foundation, $87

The Verdict: This is unlike any foundation I’ve ever tried. Its feather-like texture went on a little oily, but became powdery upon application. This serum foundation dried almost instantly and the coverage was just right. Though my skin is dry, this didn’t make it look or feel drier.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF30/PA+++, $55

The Verdict: While it looked clumpy right out of the tube, it was surprisingly lightweight upon application. It almost felt like I wasn’t wearing anything at all. The shade blended in well, which is good because I’m not a foundation girl. I found I needed a touch-up in the T-zone area after lunch though, as my skin looked less “perfect” than it did in the morning.

Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet Smooth-Effect Makeup, $80

The Verdict: I loved the texture. It was so lightweight, it didn’t feel like I had anything on my face. It was my first time using liquid foundation and the texture made it so easy-to-blend, even for a foundation novice like myself. The foundation gave my skin a natural finish. It wasn’t so matte that my face looked flat and wasn’t too dewy that I looked greasy — perfect because of my oily skin. I didn’t even have to apply powder over it for my face to stay shine-free the whole day.

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide, $75.

The Verdict: This has a much lighter texture than regular liquid foundations I’ve tried and can be applied with a brush or fingers. It was easy to blend without looking streaky and didn’t require any powder to “set”, thanks to its slightly matte finish. My only complaint is that it can get quite messy if left upside down in your makeup pouch, as the liquid flows out everywhere.
