Now you see it, now you don’t. A bevy of stars turned up the heat at Star Award’s red carpet by daring to bare (almost) all in sexy peekaboo pieces and plunging necklines. Here’s how to wear these tricky trends off the red carpet (and on the streets).

Belinda Lee

Belinda shows why she’s in the Top 10 Female Artistes list this year by looking resplendent and screen goddess-esque in this off-shoulder lace Tony Ward Couture gown with a thigh-baring translucent bit to showcase her gorgeous gams. Keep it casual yet sensual with this sleeveless white lace number with a see-through hem that will take you effortlessly from the office to the beach.

We love how the gladiator-looking top contrasts with the peekaboo translucent bottom half, with the black lace lending a Gothic twist. Steal her edgy style while dialing down the drama with this sleeveless maxi dress from Alice McCall that plays optical tricks with a nude slip underneath.

Whoever said that short hems and peekaboo lace cut-outs belong to the young has never met Kym Ng. The veteran host and actress looks like a vision of youth in her spunky blonde crop and this blue lace Nedro by Nedretta Ciroglu mini dress. Not comfy showing off all that skin? Then you’ll love swanning around in this sweet little number that mimics that peekaboo effect without actually baring much skin.

You can do this trend subtly, or… not. Felicia Chin decided to go the whole hog in this ultra-daring Paolo Sebastian number with strategically placed embroidery that leaves little to the imagination. “If you’re slightly more on the conservative side, try layering a nude slip under sheer outfits,” says Lena Kamarudin, fashion editor at Style. We prefer to keep our private bits, well, private, with this bodycon ASOS number in a nude shade that is actually fully lined.

Jeanette’s intricate beaded, floral tulle Valentino gown seems more mumsy than va-va-voom despite its see-through bits. We prefer the elegance and femininity of this more covered-up version from Needle & Thread.

Paige Chua

We like white lace for its contrast of virginal and sensuality, but Paige Chua’s number was so covered up that she could have been an Edwardian-era bride. Take peekaboo white lace to another level of naughty with a strategically placed cutout at the waist.

Don’t be deceived by the demure draping on the arms and bodice. Aileen’s Grecian gown features a deep plunging neckline that proves that age is just a number when it comes to flaunting your (ahem) flawless assets. This strappy version from ASOS has a more casual vibe, and is perfect for a hot date or a night out on the town.

Julie Tan

Fancy showing off a little cleavage without actually going down the plunging neckline route? Julie Tan shows how flashing a little boob-age can look edgy (and even work-appropriate) in this outfit that features a narrow gap down the middle and a sheer skirt. While we love the look (especially this Lost Ink version from ASOS), a word of caution: Don’t attempt this if you’re well-endowed, as this does not offer many options for undergarment support.

Here’s another classy way of taking the plunge without going all the way. The narrow panels across Belinda Lee’s waist-deep neckline give the illusion of modesty, much like the lace panel in this Sandro dress.
