HOT OR NOT: Star Awards 2015 Show 1 fashion

The bad news is, there were a few questionable looks last night. The good news is, people can still redeem themselves for Show 2.

The pint-sized star looked half cupcake, half fairy in this floaty Dolce & Gabbana number. Now that’s what we call the perfect storm of cuteness.

Elvin definitely looks LIKE A BOSS in his expertly-tailored, double-breasted Hugo Boss jacket.

The Thom Browne suit is nice, but oh, that hair. Desmond Tan told us backstage that he wanted to try something new. We think he should try again.

Verdict: NOT

Julie Tan & Carrie Wong

Julie’s look is kind of a snoozefest, but we’re plenty intrigued by Carrie’s androgynous outfit and slicked-back hair.

VERDICT: We’re torn on Carrie. On the one hand, she’s definitely ahead of her peers in the menswear game. On the other hand, that hair, which runway-worthy, still reminds us of Severus Snape. We’ll give this a ‘lukewarm’ for now.

Ben Yeo

Ben Yeo looks like a geography professor. We have nothing else left to say.

Verdict: Hot, if you are hot for teacher

Is it just us, or do cornrows always look a little bit awkward on Asians? Look up “cultural appropriation” in the dictionary and this photo will show up right next to it.

Verdict: NOT

Belinda Lee

Belinda Lee

Belinda’s Alice & Olivia dress could have used a little more ironing, but the deep V, 1950s-inspired silhouette, and rockin’ Chanel purse more than compensate for the wrinkles.

VERDICT: HOT

Ian Fang

Ian Fang

This Saint Laurent outfit is one motorcycle away from being perfect. Dear Ian, please tell us you acquired a Harley and took fellow leather-clad hunks Tay Ping Hui and Xu Bin for a magical ride down Caldecott hill.

Verdict: HOT

This Isabel Sanchez minidress screams LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME! Boy, do we wish we didn’t.

Jeanette Aw

Jeanette Aw

How pretty! Jeanette’s Alice & Olivia gown and simple, side-swept ponytail make us want to buy a yacht.

Verdict: HOT (Don’t be deceived by her simple jewellery – Jeanette’s SK earrings and bracelet cost upward of 60k!)

Jeffrey Xu

Sorry, Jeffrey, but camo print hasn’t been a respectable print (outside of the army) since 2004. Try this DSquared outfit again in 10 years – maybe by then it will be considered charmingly retro instead of depressingly outdated.

Verdict: NOT

Kimberly Chia

Not everyone can rock a crop top on the red carpet, but Kimberly sure knows how to do it without looking like a Kardashian-Jenner sister.

Who says you need to be show-offish during Star Awards? The grounded star looked lovely in her H&M Conscious ballgown.

Rebecca Lim

Rebecca Lim

We love Rebecca for choosing a dress by up-and-coming American designer Naeem Khan, which is just one of her three dresses flown in specially from New York. Word on the street is that designers overseas have been dying to dress Becks since she stepped out in Giambattisa Valli last year, so we can only wonder what she will be wearing for Show 2 next Sunday.

Verdict: HOT (Get a load of that Cartier bling!)

Romeo Tan

Romeo polka-dotted DSquared2 suit makes him look more youthful than ever, without compromising the maturity that should come with the big 3-0.

Verdict: HOT

Rui En

Rui En

It’s official: Rui En can do no wrong on the red carpet. This vampy Ralph Lauren is not only flattering, but it’s noticeably more edgy than what the other actresses were wearing that night.

VERDICT: HOT

Shane Pow

What the. Heck NO. There are exactly 0 flattering elements of this Yohji Yamamoto suit, which makes the otherwise clean-cut Shane Pow look like he just sprang out of the Jumanji game board.

Xu Bin

The doe-eyed Duke’s DSquared2 jacket looks a little tight considering the terrible weather lately, but hey, if he can rock it without breaking a sweat, then more power to him.

Ya Hui

BONUS: Chen Tian Wen

Sure, this outfit is part of a costume, but since he’s the hottest thing in Singapore since Cheryl’s birthday, we think Chen Tian Wen deserves a spot on this list.
