The best and worst looks from Star Awards 2016 Part 2

The fashion at Star Awards 2016 Part 2 was some of the most interesting we’ve seen in years, with fluffy hairstyles, legs, and cleavage taking center stage. So who did it best (and who needs to consider a wardrobe makeover)?

Keep reading to find out.

Pan Lingling

Yowza! Lingling stuns in a svelte black dress from Carolina Herrera.

Julie Tan

Julie Tan

We’ll admit to being a little bit overwhelmed by Julie’s burgundy lips backstage, which she described as a throwback to her goth style era in school. We were completely determined to give her a “NOT” for this “zombie prom” look until she accepted her Best Supporting Actress Award with a noticeably subdued lip colour. With that distraction out of the way, we were able to focus on her lingerie-style Burberry gown.

“Got cleavage meh?” she laughed, when we asked if she took any measures to prevent a wardrobe malfunction. “I didn’t put anything. No tape because my boobs are small enough, it’s not big…[the dress is] very secure.”

Verdict: HOT

Aileen Tan

Aileen Tan

Looks like Hollywood tape was the real winner for tonight’s fashion: Aileen’s plunging Tiara Bridal gown is befitting of a Kardashian.

Verdict: HOT (If you’ve got it, flaunt it)

Xu Bin and Aloysius Pang

Xu Bin and Aloysius Pang

Hot but zzzz.

Verdict: Lukewarm. Congrats Xu Bin and Aloy, the fact that you dress so safely, yet look so good while doing it, has forced us to create a new category just to accommodate your increasingly predictable sense of style.

Tong Bingyu

25 Apr 2016

Tong Bingyu

Bingyu defied gravity in her sexy Mikael Aghal gown, if you know what we mean – and believe it or not, her stylist, Keith Png, said that she did not need any assistance from double-sided tape.

Verdict: HOT

Zheng Geping

Zheng Geping

Geping perfected the “hot dad” look in this blue and grey getup from Gives & Hawkes (we love the striped tie!).

Verdict: HOT

Jeanette Aw

Jeanette Aw

Jeanette won both the fashion and the acting game during Part 2, since she looked flawless as usual in an Alexander McQueen dress and half a million dollars worth of Cartier jewellery.

Verdict: HOT

Kym Ng

Kym Ng

As much as we love this silhouette on Kym, this dress looks more suited to the skating rink than to an awards show (and how did she not freeze to death in the theatre?).

Verdict: NOT

Rui En

Rui En

As hot as Rui En looks in this Thierry Mugler gown, we can’t help feeling as if we’ve seen her in something like this before.

Verdict: Lukewarm

That awkward moment when you have the misfortune of wearing almost the same thing as Rui En.

Verdict: NOT

Hong Huifang

Hong Huifang

Huifang nails the “hot but evil” look (think: Snow White and the Huntsman) in Max Tan and Swarovski.

Verdict: HOT

Rebecca Lim
Rebecca Lim
25 Apr 2016

Rebecca Lim

Why does Rebecca keep getting stuck with these horrifying Gucci dresses? (The “Tiger Balm” gown from the new Mediacorp campus opening last year comes to mind.) This flowery turtleneck gown looks like it was assembled at an arts and craft store.

Verdict: NOT

Ian Fang

Ian Fang

Sigh. Rebecca’s Gucci dress is so tacky, it makes Ian’s otherwise inelegant jacket look stylish in comparison.

(But in all seriousness, we love how Ian mixed classic pieces with an eye-catching outfit from Versus.)

Verdict: HOT

Zhang Zhen Huan (second outfit)

Zhen Huan might have won big in the acting category on Sunday night, but he definitely lost when it came to fashion, especially when he emerged during the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste segment looking like a Vegas magician.

Verdict: NOT

Quan Yifong

Quan Yifong

Yifong looked confident as ever in a bombastic blue cleavage-baring gown.

Verdict: HOT

Vivian Lai

Vivian Lai

Vivian looked innocent and sweet in her lacy top and tulle skirt.

Verdict: HOT

Carrie Wong

Carrie Wong

This Alice & Olivia two-piece looks especially chic with Carrie’s “handsome” pixie cut.

Verdict: HOT

Sheila Sim
Sheila Sim
25 Apr 2016

Sheila Sim

Sheila’s Chanel dress was one of the most avant garde looks of the night. As much as we love an unconventional look, this dress would have looked a lot better without the belt around her waist.

Verdict: NOT

Paige Chua

Paige Chua

Paige’s shapeless Max Mara dress and harsh makeup seriously age her.

Verdict: NOT

Andie Chen
Andie Chen
25 Apr 2016

Andie Chen

Firstly, this colour and texture combination on this Ferragamo suit is way too “uncle” for Andie, who otherwise qualifies as a good-looking young dad. And secondly, someone needs to send that hair straight back to the Nineties.

Verdict: NOT

Shaun Chen

Looks like Shaun went from serving the VIPs to being the VIP.

Verdict: HOT

Jeffrey Xu (first outfit)

Jeffrey Xu (first outfit)

Jeffrey might have celebrated a Top Ten Most Popular Male Artiste win tonight, but his fashion game was definitely a step down from last week – this ill-fitting outfit (and that hair) are yikes all the way.

Verdict: NOT

Romeo Tan (pictured with Zhang Zhen Huan)

Romeo ventured slightly out of his comfort zone in a bright blue suit from Q Menswear, and it totally paid off – this is something we could totally see Ryan Gosling wearing on the red carpet.

Felicia Chin

Felicia Chin

As much as it pains us to give Felicia a “not” two weeks in a row, we’re not crazy about her fluffy black Dolce & Gabbana gown and red under-eye makeup, which make Felicia -- who already admitted to being sleep-deprived from travel -- look like a hungover prom queen.

Verdict: NOT

Elvin looks like the hottest pilot ever in a suit from Q Menswear.

Jesseca Liu

While the texture on Jesseca’s Tony Ward Couture gown reminds us of a seat cushion, we’ve got to admire how it brings out the best parts of her figure.

Verdict: HOT

Shane Pow

Shane Pow

Well, someone cleans up nicely! Compared to some of the other looks we’ve featured here, Shane’s Calvin Klein suit is a little basic, but relative to his past Star Awards looks, it’s totally hot.

Pierre Png

We were tempted to give pierre a pass this time because of his eye infection (get well soon!) but rust-coloured pants look seriously obiang.

Verdict: Hot from the waist up

We pity whoever was sitting behind this monstrosity of a headdress.

Verdict: NOT

JJ Lin

While this suit sadly recalled Jeffrey's similarly patterned outfit, we have to give points to JJ for his (relatively) neat hairstyle and absence of jewellery.

Verdict: Hot
