The best and worst performance and show outfits

Shane Pow, Ben Yeo, Jeremy Chan, Lee Teng, and Jeffrey Xu swapped out their suits for outfits befitting a rap performance. While some of the guys look more convincing than others (Shane’s got the “swag” factor, while Lee Teng is more reminiscent “Swaggy” – a.k.a. Justin Bieber), we’re going to give them points for going all-out to rouse the crowd.

“Daddy”

This was by far the weirdest look of the night, and that’s including all the Getai costumes. Okay, it was for a performance, so we can afford to be a little more forgiving (plus, kudos to the guys for agreeing to wear those ridiculous moustaches), but they still look like a low-rent version of The Beatles.

VERDICT: NOT for actual style, but bonus HOT points for having a sense of humour.

Who says you can’t pair black and blue? We love Zoe’s statement jewellery and the subtle sparkles on her Hugo Boss gown.

Is this giving anyone else major Kardashian vibes? We hate to say it, but Kim did it better.

Jeffrey Xu

Someone hand Martin Wong an award – this Paul Smith outfit is the BEST we’ve seen on Jeffrey in a long time. Not only is his suit perfectly tailored and wrinkle-free (a detail sadly gone unnoticed by too many male artistes), but his shirt adds a bit of liveliness into what would have otherwise been a forgettable get-up.

Rebecca: This delicate lace gown from local label Aijek perfectly captured the sweetness of the event and the performance. VERDICT: HOT

Pan LinLing: The black and white Max Tan dress LingLing wore offstage is far superior to this oversized gauze strip. VERDICT: NOT

Kym Ng: Kym’s dress, while meticulously sewn, veered dangerously close to doily territory. VERDICT: LUKEWARM – NOT UGLY, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.

Zoe Tay: This wasn’t our favourite look of the night, but Zoe gets points for being the only person who could wear that shirt without looking like a pirate. VERDICT: HOT

(You thought we were building up to a “not”, weren’t you? HA. If we can age this gracefully, we’ll consider that a personal victory.)’

We haven’t seen a father-son duo this well-dressed since Prince William and Prince George were photographed wearing matching blue pullovers.

While we and the other esteemed minds at Toggle disagreed on whether Huang Shu Jun looked more like SNSD during the “Genie” era or like Emperor Lelouch vi Britannia, one thing's for sure: this man is certified SIZZLING.

Getai singers

After last year’s entertaining Getai Challenge performances, it was actually kind of nice to see old favourites Hao Hao, Zhu Lili, Li Bao En, and Luo Yi Qi take to the stage again. Sure, GeTai outfits don’t conform to the usual standards of “hotness”, but it looks like the performers’ stage presence and sense of style is as flashy as ever.

We almost did not recognise last year’s GeTai Challenge winner without his eyeliner and slicked-back dark hair. Desmond, this dye job adds at least five years to your youthful features. Go back to your old look, please!
