Star Awards' worst hair

While there have been plenty of Star Awards’ fashion missteps over the years, one thing’s for sure: the hairstyles were a lot funnier – and more adventurous – then, than were they are now. From patchy bleach jobs, to hairspray-laden updos, to Christopher Lee’s infamous “windswept” perm, we’ve rounded up the most questionable hairstyles at Star Awards over the years, in hope that our favourite artistes will continue to improve with time.

Pictured above: Honourable mentions for worst hair

Mark Lee (Star Awards 2006)

Between the randomly bleached sections of hair and the oh-so-2000s spiky look, Mark took that decade’s most iconic hair trends a little too far.

Quan Yifong (Star Awards 2015 Show 2)

We’d love to see Yifong show up with a full head of rainbow hair this year, rather than with just one awkwardly-placed strip of blue.

Okay, we take that back. Stick to natural colours, Yifong!

Well what do you know, there IS such a thing as using too much sea salt spray.

Dasmond Koh (Star Awards 2010 Show 1)

Dear hairdressers of the world, this hairstyle looks good on literally no one – but especially not only Dasmond, whose congenial features make him look like the least convincing bad boy ever.

Dawn’s limp, stringy braid is in desperate need of conditioner.

Elvin Ng (Star Awards 2012 Show 1)

Elvin’s orangey faux hawk looks a little too “beng” for such a formal event (though we suppose that his crop top sweater drew attention away from his hair.)

Chris’ hair is so furry and lifelike you can practically adopt it and call it Rover.

Sorry, Michelle, but only middle-aged kindergarten teachers should be allowed to do their hair this way.

This hairstyle is only okay if 1) it was 2003 and 2) you were in an Asian boyband.

We’re guessing that this updo used enough hairspray to burn a new hole in the ozone layer.

All we can say is that Cavin is a saint for letting his hair stylist make him look like a Kewpie doll.

Ah, 2014, when everyone was trying – and failing – to replicate T.O.P.’s hair colour from Big Bang’s “Fantastic Baby” music video.
