Your guide to the best Spring/Summer accessories

This season saw many show-stopping statement pieces and icons-in-the-making — but do these gorgeous pieces translate well in real life? Team ELLE took it upon ourselves to sieve through the Spring/Summer runways and test out the best of the best, just for you.

Louis Vuitton

Petite Malle Souple Toile in canvas, $4,800, by Louis Vuitton.

“Let’s call this the everyday version of the original Petite Malle which first launched during Fall/Winter 2014. It still retains the maison’s vintage travel trunk look and shape, but this time made in a fuss-free material, malleable shape and a colour that is on point with the current military trend.”

Saint Laurent

Candy 80 patchwork stars sandal heel in python and leather, $1,870, by Saint Laurent.

“This pair of platform heels is a true-blue nod to the ’70s. Trust Hedi Slimane to nail the era with a sense of humour using details such as the patchwork star, metallic leather and leopard-spotted heel. Don’t be fooled by its height and platform, it is extremely stable and insanely comfortable. Highly recommended for heel beginners — it will feel like you’re walking on flats.”

Prada

Leather clutch, by Prada.

“This looks like something the women in Mad Men would carry: We can imagine meeting Don Draper with this in hand. This surprisingly roomy clutch holds a ’60s girl’s AM-to-PM essentials including money, coin purse, makeup pouch, pack of cigarillos and lighter, two pens, and a small notebook.”

Valentino

Woven leather lace-up sandals, $2,320, by Valentino.

“Clearly the shoe we all should be wearing this season, this particular pair isn’t just another gladiator sandal. The devil is in the details: Gold hardware accents in the form of seashells and coral reefs add just the right touch of bohemian whimsy. Ideal for both petite and tall frames, the woven leather lace-ups gives you the versatility of tying it up high or low.”

Bally

Corner frame clutch in brushed leather, $2,390, by Bally.

“We love how this box clutch subverts a very classic shape and the inspiration came from the gentleman's corner in a heel of a dress shoe. The shape is quirky — it's what you might expect from Maison Martin Margiela and not Bally, often considered a more classic brand. As far as teeny clutches go, it holds a decent amount of things, though our iPhone (with a bulky case) was a tight fit.”

Burberry Prorsum

The Field suede and satin sandal, $950, by Burberry Prorsum.

“Here’s another Birkenstock-inspired sandal we can’t live without, and we have no complaints. The sandals are made to perfection with soft leather, a good arch and of course, undeniable comfortable. We love the addition of satin making it a sophisticated sandal that can be worn with the prettiest of dresses.”

Dior

Diorama large leather bag, $8,700, by Dior.

“It’s modern, familiar shape that’s surprising lightweight for a full lambskin body and chain-and-leather strap. The flap bag also opens up to reveal a lot more space and pockets (always an essential!) than it looks like it has. There was definitely more than enough space to fit our miscellaneous and even stash a bottle of Evian.”

Chanel

Golden metallized crumpled leather lace-up shoe, $1,660, by Chanel.

“If you’ve never had the confidence to pull of masculine shoes, here is your chance. These Chanel shoes are made for those looking for a pair of brogues with a feminine touch. Not too clunky on the feet, we love how the ankle strap and cut-out add just the right kind of girly details. And as expected, they are oh-so comfortable. It’s no wonder the boys love their brogues.”

Fendi

Micro peekaboo leather bag, $2,060, and micro Bag Bugs leather baguette with jewels and fur trim, $2,060, both by Fendi.

“How small can you go? Fendi says, micro. These lovelies are tiny but mighty – lot of thought was put into this to maximise space. The Micro Peekaboo has two sections, like the original, and cardslots, which allowed us to compartmentalise my daily essentials, while the Micro Baguette fits an iPhone 6 perfectly. It’s always about the phone isn’t it?”

Salvatore Ferragamo

Salvatore Ferragamo

Miley mule, $1,850, by Salvatore Ferragamo.

“Remember the iconic Rainbow wedge created by Salvatore Ferragamo in 1938? It’s back, and reinterpreted so that it goes with everything in your wardrobe. The pared-down contemporary design retains the iconic wedge design and 5.5cm platform. It’s hefty, but such generous height advantage has never come with so much ease.”
