Waku Ghin

Waku Ghin is often cited as being one of the best restaurants in Asia. And as you probably already know, it did make the prestigious San Pellegrino 'Top 100 Restaurants in the World' this year, ranked at number 70.

At $400-$500 a person, this is a serious dining investment. Whilst I wouldn't encourage regular visits, I have to admit that it is somewhere worth checking out once. Using top notch ingredients (particularly surf and turf), the Japanese inspired dishes are part of a flurry of mind-blowing site, sound, smell and taste. The word spectacular barely does Waku Ghin justice.

Waku Ghin is located at #02-02, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956. Tel: +65 6688 8507

Blu Kouzina

Blu Kouzina is the ONLY Greek restaurant in Singapore you need to know about. Seriously. Reasonably priced and serving up absolutely mouthwatering dishes, from their taramasalata (cod roe dip) and dolmades (Stuffed vine leaves) to their whole baked fish and lamb chops. Just go. It's so good.

Blu Kouzina is located at 893 Bukit Timah Road, Singapore 589615. Tel: +65 6875 0872

Pizzeria Mozza

Osteria Mozza is also sensationally good, but I'd go for Pizzeria simply because I'm biased to convivial, more affordable restaurants where the food also happens to be excellent.

Some of Singapore's best pizzas are to be had here as well a delectable paninis, salads and other treats. Well worth a visit. As standard, book in advance.

Pizzeria Mozza is located at 10 Bayfront Avenue, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore 018956. Tel: +65 6688 8868

Burnt Ends

Burnt Ends is probably my personal favourite restaurant concept in Singapore. It's simple and flawlessly executed. Apart from a couple of tables at the back, the entire narrow restaurant set-up is over one long counter facing Chef Dave Pynt and his team. Despite the meat specialities, the veggie and fish options are equally impressive and you will never leave either feeling hungry or sad.

Burnt Ends is located at 20 Teck Lim Road, Singapore 088391. Tel: +65 6224 3933

Tippling Club

When it comes to Tippling Club, I can never decide whether I prefer the bar or restaurant. Both are simply awesome. This is one place you absolutely must have cocktails with dinner. Great food all round.

JAAN

Chef Julien Royer might have left but new Chef de Cuisine Kirk Westaway is definitely holding his own. With stunning views, JAAN offers a lot more than a pretty vista. Based on classic European cooking with a very modern twist, you expect to have food that blows your tastebuds away leaving you in a state of awe.

JAAN is located at Level 70, Equinox Complex, Swissôtel The Stamford, 2 Stamford Road, Singapore 178882. Tel: +65 6837 3322

L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon

It probably comes as no surprise to find this restaurant on this list. But then again, to anyone who has experienced food at the world's most awarded chef will vouch for its inclusion.

A meal at L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon offers a culinary journey in haute French cuisine with modern takes on French classics. It's going to cost you, but I'd recommend the Degustation menu for the 'full' experience.

L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon is located at 8 Sentosa Gateway, Singapore 098269. Tel: +65 6577 6688

Le Bistrot du Sommelier

Le Bistrot du Sommelier

Since moving from its original location on Prinsep Street, Le Bistrot du Sommelier to me, sets the standard for French-bistro food in Singapore. Great wine list, service and a well-priced menu that delivers on every dish.

Tatsuya

Tatsuya

I have to include Tatsuya because it truly is one of my favourite 'posh lunch' joints. Walking in you'll find a long 20 seater sushi counter in front of the chefs as they work their magic (a few tables in a back are also available). I love Tatsuya for their consistency. One of the longest running Japanese restaurants in Singapore and still one of the best.

Tatsuya is located at Goodwood Park Hotel, 22 Scotts Rd, Singapore 228221. Tel: +65 6887 4598

Ola Cocina del Mar

Ola Cocina del Mar

Despite its financial mecca location at Marina Bay Financial Centre, Ola is simply one of the best Spanish restaurants in Singapore. Their tapas is wonderful, their paella is divine and the entire dining experience follows suit.

Ola Cocina del mar is located at #01-06, Marina Bay Financial Centre, Tower 3, 12 Marina Boulevard, Singapore 018983. Tel: +65 6604 7050

Restaurant André

Restaurant André

Whilst not generally being a fan of expensive, 'hoity-toity' fine dining restaurants, there are occasionally those that inspire. Restaurant André is definitely one. Another Singapore restaurant to be included in the coveted World 50 Best this year. Expect modern interpretations on classic European cooking  adhering to Chef André's famous ‘Octaphilosophy’.

Restaurant André is located at 41 Bukit Pasoh Road, Singapore 089855. Tel: +65 6534 8880

I have genuinely never had a bad experience at Binomio. Actually, I've never even had a mediocre experience there. Whether I've sat at their classy tapas bar or main restaurant, Binomio always delivers. Just spectacular Spanish cuisine and service. Be sure to book in advance as they are pretty much packed every night.

Etna

Etna

I think Etna might be my favourite Italian restaurant in Singapore - true story. I've been coming here frequently since they opened up a few years ago, and despite the fierce restaurant competition in the area, Etna remains busy every service, lunch and dinner. And it's not just their orgasmic tiramisu that draws the crowds.

Etna is located at 50 Duxton Road, Singapore 089534. Tel: +65 6220 5513

Kaiseki Yoshiyuki

Kaiseki Yoshiyuki

Kaiseki Yoshiyuki might also be one of the sexiest restaurants in Singapore. You can't help but feel like you're privy to some exclusive underground yakuza club. Very few seats, amazing food sourced from the best ingredients in the world. And unfortunately, a price-tag to match. Simply one of the most memorable dining experiences you could have in Singapore.

Kaiseki Yoshiyuki is located at 583 Orchard Road, Singapore 238884. Tel: +65 6235 1088

Moosehead Kitchen & Bar

Moosehead Kitchen seems to be an unlikely candidate for top restaurants in Singapore. However, anyone who has dined there recently will testify just how good their food is. Well priced, great sized portions. Simple yet innovative dishes and a great drinks list to boot. Despite its small menu, there really is something for everyone, from vegetarian to meat fiends.

Moosehead Kitchen & Bar is located at 110 Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068579. Tel: +65 6636 8055

:Pluck is quite likely the best restaurant along the Club Street enclave. Chef Brandon Teo works pure magic on plate as he serves up a delicate fusion of Japanese and western cuisines. Frankly he is one of Singapore's upcoming chef superstars. One to watch.

Shinji by Kanesaka

Shinji offers quite possibly the most authentic Japanese sushi experience in Singapore. If you've ever seen the film Jiro Dreams of Sushi, this is the sort of set up you can expect at Shinji. One long sushi counter where all the patrons sit and are served up fresh and exquisite sushi.

Shinji by Kanesaka is located at Raffles Hotel, #02-20, 1 Beach Road, Singapore 189673. Tel: +65 6338 6131

Brasserie Gavroche

Along with Le Bistro du Sommelier, Brasserie Gavroche is my other favourite French bistro-brasserie in Singapore. It's everything a restaurant should be. Their menu, while classic, has some very interesting variations, their wine list is excellent, and the service is top notch.

Brasserie Gavroche is located at 66 Tras Street, Singapore 079005. Tel: + 65 6225 8266

Esquina

Esquina

I can't help but feel that Esquina helped to lead the charge of 'small plate' restaurants in Singapore contributed to the status of Keong Saik being one of Singapore's trendiest neighbourhoods. Despite not being typically 'Spanish' tapas, their dishes are full of flavour and their regular menu changes always keep things fresh and their regulars coming back.

Esquina is located at 16 Jiak Chuan Road, Singapore 089267. Tel: +65 6222 1616

Artichoke

Artichoke

Artichoke is  one of the original brunch spots in Singas. However, it's definitely their dinner menu that keeps their customers coming back for more. Fun and fresh variations on Mediterranean food is their game, and under Chef-Owner Bjorn Shen, they play very well.

Artichoke is located at 161 Middle Road, Singapore 188978. Tel: +65 6336 6949

Lucha Loco

Lucha Loco

So Lucha Loco is more of a Mexican bar with food than a restaurant. Why is it this list then? For one, Lucha Loco was instrumental in shaping the bar and restauant scene in the Duxton neighbourhood. And have you tried their tacos? Seriously, they're amazing!

Lucha Loco is located at 15 Duxton Hill, Singapore 089598. Tel: +65 6226 3938

Corner House

Corner House

With the fine dining scene taking something of a battering in recent years as more reasonable mid-range restaurants enter the fray, Corner House stands out as one fine dining venue that actually seems to justify its hefty pricing. Using his ingredients with scientific precision to create culinary art, Chef Jason Tan is has become one of Singapore's hottest new chefs.

Corner House is located at 1 Cluny Road, E J H Corner House, Singapore Botanic Gardens (Nassim Gate), Singapore 259569. Tel: +65 6469 1000
