WHAT: Think Subway, but more artisanal. Most of the meats and sauces at this cosy two-month-old 30-seat sarnie joint are house-made. For instance, its best-selling Pulled Beef (pictured above) is marinated overnight and cooked pot roast-style till tender before being shredded. While Watsub isn’t halal-certified, owner Norizam Jafar says: “We’re Muslims, we use only halal ingredients.”
ORDER THIS: A new Chicken Rendang on Ciabatta ($12.50) sandwich has been created for Ramadan, and it comes with a drink, soup and chicken kebab. You can also customise your sarnie with these four steps (from $5.90-$7.90): first, pick from four types of bread, such as multigrain sourdough. Then choose from over 10 varieties of meat, including Smoked Chicken. Next, select a sauce to moisten your creation with, like the sesame soy or smoked chipotle. Finally, top it with as much veg as you want, including tomatoes and pickles. Yum.
