Thousands of chicks flooded a motorway.

The little creatures were being transferred in a lorry to a poultry farm in Binzhou, Shandong Province, China, when the driver lost control of his vehicle, the Daily Mirror newspaper reports.

When it crashed into a nearby barrier, boxes holding the chicks were thrown out of the truck and onto the road.

Passers-by took advantage of the situation, collecting the chicks and bringing them home but fled when police arrived.
