Buddhist monk went on the run after angry rampage

A Buddhist monk who went on the run from the law has been jailed for slashing 162 car-tyres during an angry rampage.

Julian Glew, 45, had lived in a tent in the woodlands for 20 years but lashed out at the parked vehicles in Pocklinton, east Riding of Yorkshire, because he was upset he had stepped on a bug and killed it.

Glew has been sentenced to 11 weeks in prison, after he pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal damage and failure to surrender.

Judge Fred Rutherford said his actions were "not those of a person who lives for a peaceful co-existence."
