Disney paid £24,000 to turn London's iconic Nelson's Column into a lightsaber to mark the release of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'.

The company shelled out the hefty sum for the hire of the entire of Trafalgar Square and the column itself but it is not known whether they had any additional costs in lighting up the 52m monument.

Star of the film John Boyega revealed the look from the red carpet at Leicester Square, where the European premiere was taking place, and told the hundreds of fans gathered that there was "one more surprise" left.

The local authority have said they will use the money for repairs at the popular tourist attraction.
