Hamsters prefer hammocks

Our favourite household pet, the hamster, needs to be entertained with fun features in its cage including a decent hammock.

Hamsters are happiest when in hammocks, a study has found.

The research revealed that the common household pets prefer cages filled with exciting features - including swinging beds - as opposed to just sawdust.

The experiment, which took place at Liverpool John Moores University for the Royal Society Open Science journal, also showed the critters become more adventurous when their cages have different features and are more likely to try new things.
