Man removed from flight for insisting on taking window seat

A Shanghai Airlines flight was delayed for nearly two hours on Thursday (Feb 26) after a man insisted on taking a window seat, saying that seats “should be on a first-come-first-serve basis like on buses”.

According to Chinese media reports, the man boarded the Guangzhou-bound flight at Hongqiao Airport and picked a window seat that he fancied rather than taking the one that was assigned to him.

The 5.30pm flight was almost full and the passenger whose seat he took was none too amused and refused to swap seats with him.

Cabin crew spent 20 minutes trying to persuade the man to return to his allocated seat, however he refused to budge. Furious, other passengers demanded that he be removed from the plane.

The man was later taken off the flight and detained by police.
