Pigeons are being given contraception to stop them reproducing.

The birds are becoming so vast in numbers in Badia del Valles, near Barcelona, Spain, that officials believe they are causing tourists to flee, the Daily Mirror newspaper reports.

A town hall spokesperson has claimed that a mating pair of pigeons will produce 48 pigeons a year, causing a huge increase in the species' numbers.

Officials are now hoping there will be 80% less birds in the town in the next four or five years.
