A town has banned bananas at their annual Scottish Traditional Boat Festival.

Some in the Aberdeenshire town of Portsoy, Scotland believe the yellow fruit brings bad luck to their voyages and have requested a ban on bananas, the Daily Record newspaper reports.

Roger Goodyear, chairman of the festival, said: "Bananas may be a delicious fruit but they are considered bad luck on boats.

"We want to do everything possible to make sure our 2015 festival is a success and we don't want to take any chances."
