When the music stopped, Singapore kept calm and sang on

We have witnessed many a memorable moment this SEA Games but this video of the victory ceremony for the Singapore women’s 4x200m freestyle relay team of Quah Ting Wen, Amanda Lim, Christie May Chue and Rachel Tseng on Jun 8 is undoubtedly the best thing to have surfaced online so far.

When the sound system failed midway through “Majulah Singapura”, the patriotic home crowd at the OCBC Aquatic Centre continued singing the national anthem loud and proud. We totally got the goosebumps watching this heartwarming moment. #SGpride

When Filipino divers made a splash - literally

Filipino divers John David Pahoyo and John Elmerson Fabriga made a splash - literally and figuratively - in the Games when footage of their botched dives went viral. The pair landed nearly horizontal in the men's 3-metre springboard event, earning them zero points and the nickname “Splash Brothers”.

Despite being mocked, John said on Facebook that he was proud to have represented his country and even laughed at himself: “This was not the first time I failed a dive, and I was not the first one who did so.” Not shy, this one.

When Straits Times got a little kinky

It seems someone at the Straits Times Sports Desk got a little too excited when covering the Games and unleashed this kinky tweet.

Naturally netizens were amused and took the piss out of them. If you still don’t get the joke, go google “golden shower”. I’m sure you wouldn’t want any part of it, golden or not.

When decathlete Lance Tan proposed to girlfriend

Singapore decathlete Lance Tan may have missed out on a medal but he certainly gained something more priceless - his girlfriend’s hand in marriage and his proposal captured on social media for posterity.

After his final event, the 1,500m race, on Jun 10, the 28-year-old went to the stands, took out a ring which he hid in his shoe and proposed to his long-time girlfriend. Awww…

When PM Lee got his groovy cheer on

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong showed his humorous side when he shared a photo of himself trying to “do an ‘A’, as in ‘YMCA’” while cheering on the Team Singapore ambassadors at the OCBC Aquatic Centre on Jun 10. And we thought he was being kawaii and attempting the saranghae pose!

Also making waves at the pool was two of Singapore’s favourite Mark Lees.

Okay, so this was the work of the Toggle team but we just couldn’t resist when we saw local diver Mark Lee in action during the men’s 3-metre springboard diving final and his namesake doing the flips at his pool. Like what the commentator said, not perfect, but consider us impressed!
