The hottest, most crush-worthy world leaders

These world leaders and heads of state are guilty of making us swoon

Great news, everyone: Justin Bieber is no longer Canada’s hottest Justin.

Great news, everyone: Justin Bieber is no longer Canada’s hottest Justin.

The country’s new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, who replaced outgoing Prime Minister Stephen Harper earlier this week, has set hearts aflame for his boyish features and his, uh, magnificent bod.

But Trudeau isn’t the first (and we hope he won’t be the last) world leader who made headlines for being good-looking. Which, you know, is the most important quality these people have to offer. Intelligence? Integrity? Political savvy and governance? Pfffft. Here’s who else makes us swoon with impossible longing.

Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan

It’s not often that we see a king who’s as attractive as the ones depicted on our screens, but Bhutan’s handsome monarch, age 35, could totally pass for a film actor.

Fun fact: During his years as the Crown Prince, the King attracted a legion of female fans in Thailand, earning the nickname “Prince Charming” in the Thai press.

Felipe VI, King of Spain

Maybe we watched too many Disney cartoons growing up, but it’s hard for us to imagine kings without dark hair and salt-and-pepper beards. Thanks goodness, Felipe VI, who became King of Spain in 2014 after his father abdicated the throne all of a sudden, fits the bill.

Fun fact: Felipe’s wife, Queen Letizia of Spain, was a journalist and news anchor prior to marrying Felipe.

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, President of Argentina

Eyebrows on fleek, curls on lock, smoky eyes done to perfection – somehow, the president of Argentina still manages to look put-together despite the challenges of governing a country (meanwhile, we can’t even bother to blow-dry our hair before work).

Fun fact: She has a tumultuous relationship with the international media, but whatever, she’s been a babe since her youth.

Barack Obama, President of the United States of America

Despite his infamous high-waisted jeans and the rapid loss of his once famously youthful appearance, President Obama has still got the “hot dad” thing going on.

Fun fact: He’s won two Grammy Awards. One for Best Spoken Word Album in 2006 for the abridged audiobook recording of Dreams from My Father, and again in 2008 for The Audacity of Hope.

Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands

The Dutch Prime Minister’s crinkly blue eyes and specs are giving us serious Hogwarts professor vibes.

Fun fact: He’s unmarried and still teaches two hours a week at the Johan de Witt College in The Hague. Er, where can we sign up?

Yulia Tymoshenko, former Prime Minister of Ukraine

Okay, okay, she’s a former world leader, but how can we not include Yulia Tymoshenko and her fabulous milkmaid braids? Sienna Miller, the Olsen twins, and all the hippy-dippy Hollywood stars can do their best, but no one else wears them as naturally as the Ukraine’s former PM.

Fun fact: She was the first woman appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico

If you squint REALLY hard, he kind of resembles Jamie Dornan in 50 Shades of Grey.

Fun fact: An article written by the Los Angeles Times in 2012 described Peña Nieto as a “man of mystery”, which er, sounds sexy, but actually alludes to his inscrutable convictions.

Ma Ying-jeou, President of Taiwan

Ma Ying-jeou’s approval rating might have dipped 60% within six years in office, but er, at least he’s as high on the hotness scale as ever? Well, that’s at least according to Super Junior’s Siwon Choi, who praised President Ma in 2012 for being handsome (of course, this was in response to netizens who commented that Siwon looks like a young Ma Ying-jeou).

Fun fact: Like President Obama, President Ma has also dealt with controversy over his birthplace, which a rivaling legislator alleged was in Shenzhen, China, rather than in Hong Kong, as officially reported.

Park Geun-Hye, President of South Korea

Believe it or not, this woman is 63. Maybe there IS something magical about the (in)famous Korean skincare routine after all….

Fun fact: She has a reputation for keeping press conferences to a minimum, having held only four press conferences since taking office in February 2013, and with three of the four being public speeches with no question and answer segment.
