Real-life Hulk risks life to achieve incredible bulk

This is probably the closest anyone can get to looking like the Incredible Hulk.

Bodybuilder Romario Dos Santos Alves was so obsessed with getting pumped that he injected oil and alcohol into his arms and nearly had to get them amputated because his muscles had solidified to become “rocks”.

The synthetic filler, synthol, caused his biceps to swell to a massive 25 inches but also resulted in serious health issues. He was constantly in pain and almost suffered kidney failure due to the toxins in the oil.

Fortunately, doctors were eventually able to remove the synthol rocks without amputation.

Zookeeper sacked for letting tourists ride giant tortoises

A Xiamen zookeeper has been sacked after photos of tourists enjoying rides atop one of the zoo’s giant Aldabra tortoises went viral.

A diplomatic gift by Mauritius three years ago, the 69-year-old tortoise was reportedly crying and repeatedly prodded with a screwdriver to make it move.

While the zoo charges tourists 30 yuan (S$6.50) to get a picture taken with the tortoises, they are not allowed to ride them. A spokesman for the zoo said the zookeeper probably suggested letting tourists ride the tortoises to earn more commission.

Pizza Hut order reveals hostage situation

A woman, who was held hostage by her boyfriend on Monday (May 4), was rescued after she sent an online order to Pizza Hut along with an SOS message.

“Please help. Get 911 to me,” wrote victim Cheryl Treadway in the comment box when she put in an order using the restaurant’s online app.

When the order came through at the chain’s outlet in Florida, staff recognised Cheryl’s name and address as a regular customer and immediately contacted the authorities.

Cheryl, who was held with her three children, later revealed that she had been arguing with her boyfriend all day. Armed with a knife, he refused to let her leave his sight or use a phone, but she eventually convinced him to give her a mobile phone to place the order.

Teacher under fire for “shady” photos

A teacher is under fire after photos showing a student holding an umbrella to shade her during a school outing went viral.

The photos, which were taken last month at the Shanghai Peace Park, showed the boy stretching his arm to hold an umbrella over his teacher’s head as she walked along in sunglasses, fanning herself. And everywhere she went, the boy followed, sometimes even having to tiptoe due to their height difference.

Netizens were outraged by the photos, accusing the teacher of abusing her power. Though education officials noted that the boy did it willingly, teachers were reminded to discipline themselves and care for their students.

Bird strike causes extensive damage to passenger plane

Who would have thought a bird could cause so much damage to a plane?

The nose cone of a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul was flattened by a bird strike during landing at Nevşehir on Wednesday (May 6).

While the flight was believed to have landed safely with no injuries to the 125 passengers on board, the plane wasn’t so fortunate. With major damage to the front and wings, the aircraft had to be towed to a hangar for maintenance.

Aceh bans unmarried couples from sharing motorcycle rides

A district in Indonesia’s Aceh has banned unmarried men and women from riding together on motorbikes “as it could lead to sinful acts”.

The new Islamic regulation was approved by members of parliament last week and will come into effect in May 2016. Other Islamic bylaws that got the nod include a ban on live music performances and the separation of male and female students in school.

In 2003, authorities banned female passengers from straddling motorbikes, requiring that they ride sidesaddle instead. The reason being, “the curves of a woman’s body” are more visible when they straddle. Right.

Netizen outraged to find mushrooms growing out of flat door

Those white specks on your wooden door could be more than meets the eye.

Netizen Sarah Yee was outraged to find “white shitake mushrooms” growing out of a door in her new BTO flat in Punggol not long after moving in. And apparently this “shroomy” problem isn’t all that rare.

Beards could be dirtier than the loo

Ladies, if you need an excuse to get your man to get rid of his beard, this is it.

According to a study, beards are riddled with bacteria - the ones that you find in faeces - and could even be dirtier than a toilet bowl. This is because facial hair, being courser than other hair, traps dirt and germs more easily, said microbiologists.

So not only are beards prickly, they are bacterial sponges. Gross.
