ComfortDelgro driving student barred from taking lessons after punching instructor

A student has been barred from driving lessons at ComfortDelGro, after he was caught on video punching an instructor on Monday (Nov 2). In a video posted by "Sam Hap" on Facebook on Wednesday, a man is seen walking up to another at the ComfortDelGro Driving Centre in Ubi before punching him in the face. The victim fell backwards onto the bonnet of a car after being struck while by-standers tried to intervene. The video of the “unprovoked attack” has since gone viral. A ComfortDelGro spokesperson said the driving instructor suffered a cut on his lip and was conveyed to the hospital. He is now on medical leave.

SIA says sheep farts not cause of emergency landing

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has cleared the air about reports that a freighter plane had to make an emergency landing on October 26 after flatulence produced by the 2,186 sheep on board was mistaken for smoke in the cargo hold. According to a SIA spokesperson, the flight, which was carrying a shipment of goats from Adelaide to Kuala Lumpur, had been diverted to Bali after the crew received a warning from the onboard fire alarm system. No evidence of fire or smoke was found during the inspection.

The Aviation Herald had reported on Oct 27 that the “exhaust gasses and manure produced by the sheep” triggered the smoke alarm. “That is an assumption being made by media, which we are unable to confirm,” said SIA.

Bride suffers concussion after groomsmen fail to catch her in wedding toss

Groomsmen and bridesmaids, this is why we should put a stop to wedding shenanigans. A Chinese bride was left unconscious at her wedding last month after a prank gone wrong. When the bride arrived at a Shandong hotel for the wedding banquet, a group of groomsmen grabbed her and tossed her high into the air. However, they failed to catch her when she fell and she landed headfirst on the ground. The bride became unconscious and was rushed to the hospital in her wedding gown. She reportedly suffered a slight concussion but thankfully is now in stable condition.

Speaking of weddings…

Man proposes to girlfriend with wisdom tooth ring

We are all for unconventional proposals but we’re not sure this is such a, erm, wise idea. A Canadian man got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend with a ring made with his wisdom tooth last week. California couple Lucas Unger and Carlee Leifkes, who met at a music festival in Canada earlier this year, came up with the concept of the unique ring together, but Lucas surprised her with the proposal on Halloween.

Calling her unique ring “amazing” and “special”, Carlee said diamonds are “so overrated” and that she doesn’t need “one to prove how much someone loves me”. “He’d already moved all the way from Canada to do that!” she said. The pair will get married in Las Vegas later this month.

Girl finds dead frog in McDonald’s wrap

It seems like worms aren’t the only foreign ingredient haunting McDonald’s customers. A 10-year-old girl was horrified when she bit into a dead frog in a chicken wrap she purchased from a McDonald’s restaurant in Wales on Halloween. Disgusted, the girl’s father, who suspected it was a Halloween prank by a worker, called the fast-food chain but got little sympathy. Not only did the customer service officer not apologise, he simply offered a refund and asked that they send them the frog. A McDonald’s spokesman said the wraps are freshly prepared when ordered and it is “extremely unlikely this originated from our restaurant”, adding that they had asked for the wrap to be returned so they can investigate further.

Man spotted brushing teeth on the subway

It’s not uncommon to see women doing their make-up on the train during the morning rush hour but brushing teeth - that’s a first! A man was caught on camera brushing away furiously while reading the newspaper on the London Underground on Wednesday, as if it is perfectly normal to do this on the train. Well it is not and as soon as he got off the train, everyone burst out laughing, wrote the person who shot and uploaded the video online. We just have one question though, where did he spit the suds?

There’s now a “Nespresso” machine for gourmet meals

There’s now a Nespresso-like machine that can prepare gourmet meals at the push of a button. Called ChefCuisine, the gadget prepares fancy dishes from vacuum-packed sachets, which have a microchip that tells the machine how long it needs to be cooked and at what temperature. All you have to do is add water and the machine does all the work.

While ChefCuisine sounds like a godsend for most of us lazy and untalented cooks, food critics are up in arms over it, saying the 199 euro (S$305) appliance will destroy France’s gastronomic heritage. However, Micheline-starred chef Anne-Sophie Pic, who has developed a string of recipes for ChefCuisine, believes the machine will have the same impact on cooking as Nespresso did on coffee.

Jiangsu riders hit the road in quilts

Forget jackets, cyclists and motorcyclists in Jiangsu, China, are choosing to quilt up for the road, because nothing beats snuggling under a quilt right? To protect themselves from the autumn chill, motorcyclists were spotted wearing quilts during their commute on Wednesday as temperatures dropped by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. And these are not just regular quilts motorists draped over themselves, but seemingly custom blankets with a hole for the head to go through and arm covers so they stay toasty when steering. Wonder who the genius behind this invention is.

Facebook ‘friend’ uses woman’s selfie to claim winnings

This is why you should never post your winning ticket on social media. A woman named Chantelle from Perth was so stoked about winning A$825 (S$828) in the Melbourne Cup that she posted a selfie with the winning ticket on Facebook. What she did not realise was the barcode from the ticket could be used to claim the winnings - and someone did just that. When Chantelle went to collect her prize just 15 minutes later, she was told that someone had beat her to it, using her photo featuring her ticket. Chantelle reckoned that the culprit was one of her Facebook friends and police said they are confident of finding the "robber". Looks like Chantelle will be busy housekeeping her friends list over the next few days.
