Man creates selfie arm because selfie sticks are “embarrassing”

A Japanese man who was embarrassed to use selfie sticks has created selfie arms because in his mind, these are way more inconspicuous. See, passersby couldn’t even tell he’s using one! The selfie arms are actually fake hands attached to selfie sticks and were created by a crazy inventor, who goes by the name of Mansooon. He even designed a shirt with insanely long sleeves to wear with the extendable arms (what a genius!). Clap. Clap.

Mini pigs are the latest “it” pet in Mexico

Not all pigs are born equal. Unlike most pigs that wind up as dinner, mini pigs have become a status symbol in Mexico, thanks to a new pet craze that has swept the capital. The country has always had a love affair with the animal mostly in the form of roast pig and bacon but as pets, that’s something new.

Mini pigs, the result of selective breeding, became fashionable through social media and socialites like Paris Hilton and can sell for as much as US$2,500 (S$3,540). Fans prefer them to dogs as they are less needy and are clean, smell-free (apparently they don’t have sweat glands), and are also hypoallergenic.

Pilot offers flight attendant to passengers to compensate delay

It is usually the job of the airline to take care of complaints and compensation when there’s a flight delay, however a Lion Air pilot decided to take matters into his own hands last Saturday (Nov 14) and placate passengers his way. According to media reports, the pilot announced over the PA system during a flight from Surabaya to Bali that he would like to offer a widowed air stewardess, to passengers to make up for the delay. As if that wasn’t bad enough, “strange noises and moans” were heard from the cockpit throughout the flight, causing one passenger to lodge a complaint with the transport ministry.

The pilot, who has not been named, also loudly wished one of the other crew members "happy birthday" over the PA system during the flight. Reporting the results of an initial probe on Wednesday, Lion Air said the pilot has been grounded and banned from flying. While the airline did not comment on the air hostess allegation, it said that the “moans” were a result of the pilot speaking too closely to the mic.

Man disguises beer as Pepsi to smuggle it into Saudi Arabia

A smuggler was so desperate to sneak 48,000 cans of beer into Saudi Arabia that he disguised them as Pepsi. Customs officials came across the cans, which were part of a consignment labelled "soft drinks", when they arrived in a truck at the Al Batha border crossing. Video footage showed an officer inspecting what appeared to be a normal can before cutting off its fake red and blue Pepsi wrapper to reveal a can of Heineken. Possession of alcohol is an offence in Saudi Arabia and smugglers can be face prison sentences if caught.

U-turn error extends Bangkok race by 7km

This has got to be every runner’s worst nightmare. Instead of typical 21 km, participants of the Standard Chartered Bangkok half-marathon last Sunday were made to run an additional 7 km due to an error by race organisers. According to race officials, runners were directed to take a U-turn at the wrong spot, adding more than 3 km to each lap.

The Jogging Association of Thailand admitted to the error on Monday and posted an apology on its website, however this did little to quell the storm of criticism from irate runners. Organisers are now offering to send participants a specially-made T-shirt acknowledging the ‘bonus’ kilometres. Perhaps they should consider throwing in a new finishers medal as well.

Australian police on the search for men driving motorised picnic tables

Perth police are on the search for nine men after a video of them driving motorised picnic tables down a busy street went viral. Dressed in boardshorts and tees, the men were filmed cruising around the suburb of Scarborough on two picnic benches on Sunday and were also seen filling up at a petrol station. Though the stunt may seem like harmless fun, the blokes could face a series of charges including driving an unlicensed vehicle, driving an unroadworthy vehicle and drink driving, if caught by police.
