TVB's blatant product placement at awards show irks viewers

Hong Kong broadcaster TVB has been ridiculed for its not-so-subtle product placement during its awards ceremony on Sunday (Dec 13). Just before a commercial break during the show, host Carol Cheng said the celebrities should have something to eat to calm their nerves and boxes of KFC fried chicken and drinks, with logos pointing directly to the camera, were promptly brought on stage and distributed to the stars. Despite being dressed to the nines, the celebs - some wearing plastic gloves - awkwardly devoured the food while trying not to ruin their sponsored outfits and make-up.

Looks like TVB was inspired by the 2014 Oscars when Ellen DeGeneres ordered a round of pizza for the stars but sadly, it failed in the execution department. The stunt earned them six complaints to the Communications Authority.

Saudi millionaire cleared of rape after claiming he accidentally penetrated teen

A Saudi millionaire has been cleared of rape charges in London after claiming he accidentally tripped and fell on an 18-year-old who was sleeping in his apartment after a night out. According to media reports, property developer Ehsan Abdulaziz already had sex with the teen’s friend and that his penis could have been poking out of his underwear when he fell while checking on the young woman. Ehsan, 46, claimed the teen pulled him towards her and placed his hand between her legs, adding that it was possible he had semen on his hands from having sex earlier. How convenient! “I’m fragile, I fell down but nothing ever happened, between me and this girl nothing ever happened,” he told the court.

Shenyang decorates trees with fake leaves

Autumn may have just ended but Shenyang is already trying to bring it back with some fake foliage. On Wednesday (Dec 16), workers were seen attaching plastic autumn leaves to bare trees in the city to make the streets look more vibrant during winter. This is not the first time Shenyang has turned to landscaping to beautify the city. In 2013, it made headlines with its suspiciously green leaves and was criticised for wasting money and misleading children.

New app claims to be able to measure women’s cup size

Ladies, you no longer need a measuring tape to find out your cup size. Japanese developers have invented an app which they claim can determine a woman’s bra cup size by placing their phone between their breasts. Called ChiChi, the app uses a camera and sensor to determine the measurements, and was created for women who do not have time to visit a lingerie fitter. The app is still being fine-tuned and is expected to go on sale in mid-January.
