Love potion gone wrong

Almost everyone fantasises about dating a colleague, but apparently, a local tech support officer had no luck asking his crush out for coffee. Wong Fook Hiak, 43, administered a poisonous “love potion” into a fellow lecturer’s water bottle to make her fall in love with him. After tasting the contaminated water, the lecturer secretly recorded Wong pouring a mixture of xylazine and haloperidol into her drink, thus causing him to lose his job – not to mention any chances he had with her.

Alibaba boss Jack Ma sent eyebrows wagging when he showed up to a company Chinese New Year gala dressed like a Disney princess. Now, if only we could see our local CEOs in such daring attire…

Has North Korea invented hangover-free liquor?

In what is undoubtedly to funniest report to come out of Pyongyang, North Korean food scientists claim that they have invented a “suave”, ginseng-based alcohol that prevents hangovers. And how, exactly, did they achieve such a miracle? The state-run Pyongyang Times reports that they replaced sugar with “boiled and scorched glutinous rice” to diminish the bitterness of the ginseng, while retaining its remedial effects.

"Koryo Liquor, which is made of six-year-old Kaesong Koryo insam, known as being highest in medicinal effect, and the scorched rice, is highly appreciated by experts and lovers as it is suave and causes no hangover," The Pyongyang Times said.

New trend: inserting herb balls in vagina for “womb detox”

You’ve heard of a digital detox and a juice cleanse – now how about a womb detox? The Mirror has reported that women are inserting herb balls into their vaginas to “cleanse the womb and return it to a balanced state”. Er, whatever that means. The Herb Womb Detox Pearls, sold by US company Embrace Pangaea, have attracted a ton of backlash from gynaecologists, who assure women that the vagina is a “self-cleaning oven” and that untested products like the herbal pearls could cause irritation or even toxic shock syndrome.

Chinese boyfriend rolls around in public for love

The only thing weirder than seeing this devoted BF roll on the floor at his girlfriend’s command is seeing how Chinese netizens are praising him – heck, even crushing on him – for doing so. During a shopping trip at a Hangzhou mall, the couple started quarrelling about spilled coffee, leading the woman to yell “Roll!” (滚!). And what do you know: he took it literally, losing a bit of face in the process, but perhaps regaining true love. (Just kidding, the YouTube video totally shows her turning away in disgust.) Meanwhile, Internet commenters told the lady to treasure her man, while bemoaning their male partners’ likely refusal to do what he did.

McDonald’s Japan will start selling chocolate French fries

In a move that is both disgusting and inspiring, McDonald’s Japan has announced that they will start selling French fries with chocolate sauce, both regular and white. The so-called McChocolate Potatoes go on sale at the end of this month, showing that there’s no reason to choose between a side order and a dessert when you can order something that encompasses both.

Police catch naked woman bathing in Chinese singer’s home

“I’m not a burglar, just a fan,” the woman, 35, said, after police caught her bathing in the Beijing apartment of Zhao Yongxin, a member of hip hop group MIC. The woman entered his apartment after finding it unlocked, and proceeded undress, hang her clothes in the wardrobe, and use the singer’s towel and slippers. Her activities triggered a security alarm, however, leading the singer to alert the police. According to The Beijing News, the woman had been following him since last year, to the point of hiding behind a curtain in his hotel room overnight.

Best Dragon Ball cosplay ever

Now this isn’t something we ever see on our daily commute. A man in a Dragon Ball costume was spotted rolling through the streets of Taipei in a Flying Nimbus (apparently, it’s a dressed up hoverboard). Now, if only he could pull a Goku and summon it on command….

Instagrammer creates makeup looks inspired by snacks

We’ve seen makeup looks inspired by the Kardashians and Disney Princesses, but how about makeup looks inspired by a bag of Ruffles? While the association seems unlikely, we have to give Instagrammer Tim O credit for capturing his love for snacks in such a creative way.

Woman banned from taking live duck on train kills it at security checkpoint before boarding

A commuter at the Chengdu East Railway Station in Sichuan Province received quite a shock when a fellow traveler slaughtered a live duck at the security checkpoint. When he asked her what she was doing, she replied that she killed it because she wasn’t allowed to take (live) livestock on the train. She’d borrowed the knife from someone nearby, who presumably didn’t ask what she needed it for.
