Male workers in Guangzhou receive sex dolls as bonuses

Oh, please tell us that this is a joke. The China Daily is reporting that male workers at a company for “virtual romance” apps were awarded sex dolls in lieu of financial bonuses. The dolls were selected especially for single men in their twenties. The company even gave them a live demonstration. (We’d prefer cash ANY day).

Monkey King skis down mountains…in lingerie

Well, this certainly isn’t something you see every day. Or…ever. To promote its ski slopes, a resort in Henan hired women to coast round in lingerie – a common practice in China – save for the “festive” Sun WuKong masks. Bring on the nightmares!

Japan invents floating “Air Bonsai”

Nope, this wasn’t achieved using PhotoShop or by saying “Wingardium Leviosa” – a startup in Japan has invented a bonsai tree that hovers over a magnetic energy base. And if this bonsai reminds you of The Little Prince’s home, you aren’t the only one – perhaps it was done on purpose, as the product is also called “little” star. So far, the project has been wildly successful, exceeding more than six times its goal on Kickstarter.

Bunny yoga takes off in Canada

We’ve heard of cat yoga and dog yoga, but bunny yoga is a total gamechanger. Non-profit Bandaids for Bunnies collaborated with Sunberry Fitness in hope of matchmaking yogis with rabbits. The classes, which sold out in three days, gave yogis the opportunity to exercise in the company of 10 rabbits. (And before you scream RABBIT POO, don’t worry, there were handlers on site to clean up pellets.)

Chinese burglar gets head stuck in bars, is promptly arrested

Talk about going from one prison to another. A woman in eastern China came home to find that her home had been ransack, only to chance upon the burglar in a rather embarrassing position. Police footage showed the man shouting, “My neck’s been jammed!” Apparently, he’d screwed up an escape attempt after hearing the woman come home.

Dog accidentally runs half marathon, places 7th

Not many people would randomly wake up one morning and think, “I’m going to run a half marathon”, but well, that’s what a two-year-old bloodhound from Alabama did when her owner let her out in the morning. And that’s WITHOUT training. After sneaking to the track, the dog, named Ludivine, trotted alongside the runners, finishing the entire 26 km route in just over an hour and a half, earning her very own medal. Hilariously enough, her owner only found out what her dog had been up to after her friends texted her photos of Ludivine mingling with the other runners.

Thai airline to issue tickets for childlike “spirit dolls”

Passengers on Thai Smile Airways, which belongs to Thai Airways, will be able to buy seats for these dolls that owners treat as real children, due to the belief that they possess the spirits of dead kids. (Yup, sitting next to one of these would definitely be worse than sitting next to a crying baby.) According to an internal memo, dolls who are issued tickets would be served food and drinks, while dolls who don’t have tickets would have to be handled like carry-on luggage. And yes, dolls would also have to wear a seatbelt during takeoff and landing.

So what’s the deal with these creepy dolls? “Luk thep” (child angels), are said to have supernatural powers, bringing good fortune to owners who treat them well. Even Thai celebrities have praised the dolls, giving them credit for inviting blessings.

More cute animals: Sloth tries to cross the road, white giraffe spotted in Tanzania

What did we do to deserve so many cute animals this week? An adorably terrified-looking sloth was rescued by transit officials in Ecuador, while a 15-month-old white giraffe named Omo (after a brand of detergent) was photographed in Tanzania. The Wild Nature Institute (WNI) warned that she could attract poachers, but celebrated the fact that she’d made it this far into adulthood. Stay safe, both of you!

Clip of Japanese men sliding naked around a bathtub goes viral

In “why would anyone do this” news, Japanese variety show Monday Lateshow – Suiyo kara Yofukashi aired a video of naked men attempting to slide around the edge of a bathtub naked without falling off. Only a “fat” man (the show called him fat, not us) was able to complete the challenge, sliding to the other side at a disconcertingly quick speed. At the end of the clip, the man leaps up, hugs his (also naked) friends, and exclaims that he hasn’t felt this accomplished since getting accepted into university.
