Tourists break into prison for selfies

While prisoners are dying to get out, visitors are breaking into a prison in Guilin, China, to snap photos of fields of peach blossoms. Despite attempts to stop them, visitors have been seen scaling walls and jumping over the fence for selfies and some even resorted to bribing officers to let them inside the grounds. As of Feb 20, prison guards estimate more than 10,000 people had visited the site this year, reported People’s Daily Online. But that isn’t the worst. The tourists brought large amounts of litter with them to the area, and now the site is riddled with rubbish. Some were even seen shaking the trees to make the petals fall.

Caught on video: Toddler falls out of moving van on busy road

It was like a scene straight out of a movie – a toddler tumbling out of his grandfather’s moving van on a busy road in China and attempting to chase after the vehicle as it pulled away. Foruntately, the driver in the vehicle behind spotted the little boy and stopped, preventing him from harm, while another driver helped chase down the grandfather, identified as Yang Defu. The incident, which happened in Suzhou last Saturday, was captured on an in-car camera on the vehicle behind.

Defu later explained that his boot door was damaged in a recent accident and would occasionally open on its own. The boy, who initially had been sitting in a passenger seat, had crawled to the back and fell out.

Naked man caught on camera doing push-ups on HK street

A middle-aged man was caught on camera stripping and exercising in the nude at Hong Kong’s Nathan Road on Monday, reported Apple Daily. An eye witness, surnamed Wong, who filmed the fitness buff’s exercise routine, said she looked out of her office window at around 7am and saw the bottomless man removing his coat and started doing push-ups on the sidewalk. As though performing his exercise in the nude in public is not enough, the exhibitionist also set up a camera to film himself. After a few push-ups, he would run to check the images captured and repeated this around three times.

The footage which was uploaded online, went viral, with netizens keen to identify the man. Many believe the man could have been carrying out a dare, while others think he was a copycat - Chinese artist Ou Zhihang is known for doing nude push-ups in public in the name of art.

Woman devours 5kg durian when barred from taking it inside train station

A Chinese woman wolfed down a 5kg durian after she was barred from taking it inside a train station in Anhui, China. According to media reports, the woman was stopped during security checks on Monday when officers caught a whiff of the unbearable-smelling fruit in her luggage. Reluctant to surrender her beloved fruit, the woman cut it open and devoured it like a boss until her nose bled. And the best part is, she made it in time to catch her train.

Pup becomes Internet celebrity after getting braces

As though Wesley the Golden Retriever isn’t cute enough, his owner went and got him braces for his teething problems and now he’s an Internet celebrity. Six-month-old Wesley’s owner Molly Moore told BuzzFeed that when the pup’s adult teeth were coming out, he wasn’t able to close his mouth fully as they were misaligned. He was also unable to play with his toys, had difficulties eating and as a result began losing weight. Thankfully unlike humans, Wesley only has to wear the braces for a few weeks so we won’t have to wait long to see his new smile.

Oh rats! Plane forced to turn around after rat found onboard

A Loong Air flight from Hangzhou was forced to turn around last Saturday (Feb 26) after an illegal stowaway was discovered on board – a rat. Shortly after the Yunnan-bound flight took off at around 7 am, cabin crew announced that the plane had to turn around. No reason was given and even after the plane landed, passengers were not allowed to disembark. It was only after incessant probing that cabin crew revealed that it was suspected that a rat was onboard and that plane doors will only be opened after quarantine officials arrive.

Though prematurely landing a plane is only done in emergency situations, the airline said the captain made the decision to fly back to port due to the “threat to passengers' health and safety by the rat, including the possibility of it biting through wires”. While it is not known how the rat snuck onboard, the culprit eventually caught using a glue trap and the plane fumigated and disinfected.

Man left fuming after pranksters lock padlock on earlobe

A UK man was left fuming – and with some new bling - after pranksters attached a padlock to his ear stretcher. Facebook user Tom Grim Fandango Matthews said that he was having a smoke during a work break and had no idea pranksters had snuck up behind him with a padlock. He only discovered his new “earring” after he heard a click. “If I find you I will put you 6 feet under,” Tom posted on Facebook on Feb 29, with a photo of the padlock dangling from his ear.

While Tom was understandably mad, most netizens could not help but laugh at his plight. One man wrote: “I can pick locks, £10 an hour tho! [sic]”

Said another: “Ear you should be locked up looking like that!”

US college bans energy drinks because it leads to “high risk sex”

Students at a Vermont college have to say goodbye to their Red Bulls after the school banned the sale of energy drinks on campus. The reason? They could lead to “problematic behaviour” such as “high-risk sexual activity” and alcohol abuse. Middlebury College added that the drinks could affect students’ academic performance and lead to a culture of stress. While some students protested the ban, most were not sweating over it as the beverages can still be purchased elsewhere. The college’s newspaper reported that the ban will take effect on Mar 7.

A Chinese man was forced to call in firefighters to remove his ring after the 7kg he gained from major festive binging caused his fingers swell. Apparently the pain was so bad that he had to call for help. According to media reports, firefighters wrapped thread around the man’s finger and eased the ring off with the help of some grease. Ingenious!
