Chinese tourists slammed for buffet frenzy

Badly behaved Chinese tourists have once again made headlines after a video of them frantically shovelling food with their plates and hands at a buffet in Thailand went viral. In the video that was shot in Chiang Mai, the greedy tourists are seen jostling each other to get the food and walking away with platefuls of prawns. And the worst part is, much of it was left untouched. The video was posted on Facebook on Saturday (Mar 19) and has since amassed over 5 million views, with many netizens slamming the tourists: “So disgusted to watch this kind of behaviour... this is what happens when parents don't teach their kids basic etiquette. They grow up to be... gosh no word to describe,” said one user.

“That's absolutely appalling. Why take so much? How gross. Then they don't even eat it. What a waste. They should be ashamed of themselves,” said another.

However Kong Power Duty Free restaurant, where the video was reportedly shot, came to the defence of the tourists, saying that the incident took place two years ago and that the mad scramble for food was due to a tight schedule and the tourists were worried that they would miss their flight. The restaurant added in their statement on Wednesday that things are different now and urged netizens not to stereotype Chinese tourists. Following this video, another clip showing Chinese tourists clearing out a fruit plate in under six seconds at a Vietnam hotel poolside bar also hit the Internet.

Love is in the air for Kai Kai and Jia Jia... again

Looks like we’ll be getting a sequel to 50 Shades of Black and White. Giant pandas Kai Kai, 9, and Jia Jia, 8, appear to be getting randy and are preparing for their second shot at making a baby at Singapore’s River Safari. In the coming weeks, visitors may be able to witness the pair’s courtship behaviour which includes bleating, scent-marking and restlessness. According to Wildlife Reserves Singapore, the amorous couple have been showing signs that breeding season was about to start from January, even though the typical mating season lasts from February to May.

Last April, the pair decided to take their relationship to the next level but did not manage to conceive through natural mating or artificial insemination. To get them in the mood for love this time, the pair swapped dens in January and February to stimulate their mating instincts by smelling each other's scent. Kai Kai has also been having regular sexercise sessions for months.

Cherry blossom viewing, Chinese style

Looks like the Chinese will do anything to get a good photo with flowers. Not satisfied with just admiring cherry blossoms from a respectful distance, visitors in Nanjing have been spotted climbing and kicking trees to get that perfect selfie. Photos of their “shameful” actions were circulated on social media, drawing widespread criticism online. "So, in the year of the monkey everyone turns into a monkey?" said one netizen, while another commented: “Will these people read these reports? Will they feel ashamed for their uncivilised behaviour?"

Thrill-seekers left hanging upside down after bird halts rollercoaster

Thrill-seekers got an unforgettable ride of a lifetime when a rollercoaster at Beijing’s Happy Valley Amusement Park halted mid ride after a bird triggered its safety sensor. A total of 26 people were left dangling upside down for almost 20 minutes last Saturday afternoon (Mar 19) when the bird landed on the sensor and activated an emergency procedure, stopping the rollercoaster as it travelled upward, said the park in a statement. "Shortly after the ride had stopped a member of staff went up to help them, and after about 20 minutes everyone had been brought back down to the ground." said an eyewitness. "Once they were on the ground, some people looked visibly shaken."

Goldfish gets braces made from credit card

Earlier this month, Wesley the pup became an Internet celebrity after he was fitted with braces for his teething problems. Now a goldfish has also turned to braces to fix his jaw. According to its vet Brian Palmeiro, Mr Hot Wing was born without a lower jaw bone and had difficulties eating and breathing as he could not keep his mouth open. To fix it, Brian custom made tiny braces from a credit card and it only costs US$150. How cute!

Speaking of braces…

US student creates own braces for US$60

If I were a dentist, I’d be slightly worried right now. A US digital design student who could not afford dental braces decided to take matters into his own hands and create his own on a 3D printer. The kicker? It cost him less than US$60 (S$82).

Amos Dudley, 23, used to wear braces when he was much younger but his teeth got crooked again after he neglected wearing his retainers. Since braces would cost up to US$8,000, he decided to experiment making his own. After doing a lot of research, Amos used equipment at school to scan and print models of his teeth which he then used to create 12 sets of braces – because you would need different ones when your teeth slowly align over time. And the result? A perfect smile after 16 weeks and a ton of savings.

Food vendor tries to stop arrest by kissing police

A 26-year-old street vendor in China's Liuzhou city was arrested last week for illegally operating a restaurant on a sidewalk. The man, known only as Huang, got into a scuffle with police officers when they tried to shut down his roadside business and take away his chairs and tables. However mid brawl, Huang suddenly made an unexpected move and planted a kiss on an officer’s lips. Despite the way it looks, Huang claims the kiss wasn’t intentional. “I went up to him, stuck my chest out, and we accidentally kissed… But the second time, just to insult him, I kissed him again.”

Woman’s poop mishap on date goes viral

We’re pretty sure everyone would swear off doing a number two at a date’s place after reading this story. A Toronto woman took to Twitter on Monday to share about the extreme measures she had to take after a toilet visit gone wrong on her first date. Makela revealed that she panicked when the flush at her partner’s home didn’t work after she took a dump. Frantic, she did the unthinkable: she picked up the single piece of poop from the toilet, wrapped it in multiple layers of toilet paper and put in her PURSE.

The whole night, Makela could not stop thinking about the poop and even texted her sister for advice, telling her: “I'm sitting in his house with a piece of poop in my purse. I am afraid it’s going to smell or fall out.” Fortunately, a few hours later, a light appeared at the end of the tunnel. Makela’s date used the toilet and she heard it flush. Thinking it was now or never, she brought her purse to the bathroom, tossed the poop in and flushed. “By the grace of God, it worked. The poo flushed. I was free… I survived. I am a survivor,” she wrote.
