China driver shows up pantsless to pick up passenger

If you think the cab driver who took you for a ride is bad, remember it could be a lot worse – he could show up half naked without wearing any underpants. A Tianjin woman was midway through her morning commute on Monday (May 9) when she noticed her Didi Kuaidi driver, the Chinese equivalent to Uber, was bottomless with only a pair of shorts draped over his crotch. Horrified, she snapped a photo of the driver before asking him to pull over and fled.

Following the incident, she posted the photo on Weibo and filed a complaint with Didi, which offered her a ten yuan refund (S$2) and banned the creepy driver’s account. However, the driver did not take the ban lying down and sent her a threatening text message: “You really have some guts. Are you trying to make trouble here?” He was later arrested and detained for ten days.

Speaking of underpants…

Man’s genitals rot after wife soaks underwear with poison

A man in Hangzhou was shocked to find that his genitals were rotting after his underwear was sprayed with poison by his wife. According to Chinese reports, Zhang and his wife had an argument and she allegedly soaked his underpants in paraquat, a toxic chemical used as a herbicide, to get back at him. She then dried them under the sun before handing them to him to wear. As the substance was odourless and colourless, Zhang, 50, was clueless about his wife’s act until he found his privates rotting. He also suffered breathing difficulties. Zhang spent two weeks in intensive care and has since been discharged, while his wife is still under police custody.

China women measure beauty with money - literally

The beauty memes in China just keep getting more ridiculous. After balancing coins on collarbones, now Chinese netizens have taken to placing 1 yuan coins on their wrists to test their “fitness”. All you have to do is place the coin, which is 25 mm in diameter, on your wrist. If it covers your wrist, then congrats you are considered to be skinny enough. Like previous challenges, this trend went viral on Weibo, amassing some 15 million views and 20,000 comments including hilarious spinoffs like this netizen (pictured right) who balanced a 1 yuan note on his wrist.

Artist removes nipples and belly button, sells them as art

This photo has not been photoshopped. A London-based artist is selling his nipples and belly button as art after having them surgically removed. Karim Boumjimar posted his nipples, which come with gold piercings and can be worn as earrings, for sale on Instagram, along with the asking price of £10,000 (S$20,000). He will debut his belly button necklace soon.

Inspired by the Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo da Vinci, which shows her without eyelashes and eyebrows, the 18-year-old said this was his way of expressing his identity: "It came to me - I could do the same thing with my body. As humans we all have the same anatomy and I decided to do what I want with mine." Karim said in an interview with Dazed that he got rid of the body parts because he “doesn’t want to get attached to them”. And he is not stopping here. There are plans for more body alterations, “maybe something with my feet,” said Karim.

Woman gives birth to first baby at age 72

An Indian woman’s prayers for a child were answered when she gave birth to a baby at the age of 72 after undergoing IVF treatment. Daljinder Kaur and her 79-year-old husband, Mohinder Singh Gill, had been married for 46 years, and were desperate to have their own child to complete their family, but also in order to stake a claim on Mohinder’s late father’s property. Apparently, Mohinder’s siblings refused to give him a share of the property because he did not have children.

The couple started the treatment after seeing an ad for the IVF clinic and two years later, they welcomed a healthy baby boy Arman on April 19. “My life feels complete now,” the new mum told AFP. “I am looking after the baby all by myself. I feel so full of energy. My husband is also very caring and helps me as much as he can.”

Tycoon picks up man for photo thinking he’s a child

Lingerie tycoon Michelle Mone was left red-faced in front of thousands at an entrepreneurs conference in Vietnam after she mistook a man, who had presented her flowers, for a kid and carried him for a photo. Turns out the “flower boy” was a 22-year-old man and Michelle only realised her boo boo after a woman sitting in the front row shouted: “Put him down – I’m his wife!” The founder of the Ultimo underwear chain revealed her “most embarrassing moment” on Twitter last Saturday (May 7) with their selfie and the tweet: “Thought this was a six-year-old, picked him up, he’s a MAN.” Though some found the incident amusing, others criticised the 44-year-old for embarrassing the man further.

Now you can eat your Whopper in a sauna

Fast food chains sure are pulling out the stops to keep customers interested. Earlier this month, KFC launched chicken-flavoured nail polish, and now Burger King has opened a spa featuring saunas and steam rooms in one of their Finland restaurants. Located in Helsinki, the sauna contains 15 seats and can be used for social gatherings and events. There’s also a smaller room equipped out with 48-inch television. And in case you get hungry, you can eat your Whopper while sweating out your toxins, though we don’t think it is advisable unless you are fine with soggy buns.
