The Yuletide season of gifting may typically make your man hint loudly (and often) that he deserves that jaw dropping 110 inch flat screen HD TV, the latest and greatest portable BOSE sound bar, and the latest installment of that Apple TV device. But this Christmas day, he wants not what money can buy but has a different Christmas wish list altogether for you.

1. My Christmas wish: For you to enjoy Christmas feasting as much as I do.

Please stop calorie counting. Stop obsessing about getting fat because you'll always be beautiful to me. I love this time of the year and I want us to enjoy the festive season feasting on the roast turkey, ham, chestnut stuffing and parsnips that only make the immigration clearance into Singapore once a year!

2. My Christmas wish: Please understand that I can’t read minds.

It used to be easier a decade ago when we had less life experience under our belts. But it's harder now. Plus, we men tend to have shorter attention spans as we age and given that we already made it to the Bottom 3 where best listeners and communicators are concerned, perhaps you could throw us a bone? We don't always read your signs or get your hints. We tend to develop ideas and suggestions from logic whereas you tend to do that from a more emotional place. No more guessing games, my love.

3. My Christmas wish: That I will learn how to listen more and fix less.

Many women are good at saying the right things at the right time. Your comeback responses are a good lightning speed faster than ours any day. Men are slower. We need to "process" a problem before talking about it. We're fixers! We need time to come up with a response and solution to the issue. But when we're under fire, we tend to say the dumbest things. Journeying through the long and winding road with you has taught me to know that you're not always looking for a solution. I now know that you often just need us to affirm your anger and frustration or simply to give you a listening ear.

4. My Christmas wish: Please don't be jealous when I instinctively turn to look at another girl.

Men are visual but we don't all have peach flower eyes or tao hua yen (Mandarin: wandering eyes). We often have to make the tough call to dutifully look away as soon as these visual stimuli appear so we don't upset the jealous monster we now can't live without. But we mean no harm.

5. My Christmas wish: For us to work together on my home living habits.

5. My Christmas wish: For us to work together on my home living habits.

I tend to be lax about home and toilet cleanliness and management but I appreciate that you've got the home running like a well-oiled machine. But all that drama when I leave wet towels on the bed, when I'm chill with coffee stained concentric circles in my breakfast mug or leftover fried egg oil stains glistening on the cooker when the kitchen light hits the hob makes me feel really lousy. Cut me some slack? Don't let a little dirt, grease and stray hair rouse you to bring the house down. Believe me, I want our home living styles to gel as much as you do.

6. My Christmas wish: Can we have less of a power struggle?

6. My Christmas wish: Can we have less of a power struggle?

It's tough being a man who makes less money than his boo. Modern times call for modern reactions but it still ain't easy. I love that you're independent and have strong money earning power. It's humbling that you're generous with your time and money and aren't calculative with me. I love that I can count on you to make difficult decisions steadily. But I'd still like to feel useful and needed, too.

7. My Christmas wish: I'll help out more around the house.

7. My Christmas wish: I'll help out more around the house.

I know a clean orderly house means a lot to you. Although I don't acknowledge your efforts to run the home smoothly, I'm grateful. When I'm tired I tend to veg away watching Netflix, playing video games and tinkering with my 101 mobile gadgets. I would readily kick a ball around than help out at home. I hear your frustration when you nag at me. From now on, I will make an effort to help out at home without you asking me to.

8. My Christmas wish: More romance!

8. My Christmas wish: More romance!

Truth is, we love you and want to romance you. But reality gets in the way and we're relegated to same ole, same ole, and forget to romance you the way you'd like. It's time to rekindle the old flame and make new romantic history instead of only reliving those golden ones from 10 years ago. Take this walk with me, babe.

9. My Christmas wish: I'd love for us to up the ante in the bedroom.

OK, so you've probably been around the block more than I want to know. But it hurts when you hint that I don't how to make you feel like a woman or suggest that I don't make the effort to. Don't refuse me sex as punishment. I'd love a frank and honest discussion to see how we can add a little funk to our sex lives.

10. My Christmas wish: Please accept that Men are from Mars.

10. My Christmas wish: Please accept that Men are from Mars.

I love that you're all woman - patient, nurturing, thoughtful, sexy, feminine, frazzled, funny, crazy, warm, affectionate and talk at the speed of light. You're hilarious and it motivates me to do couple time with you. Women tend to have 101 items to check off on their Perfect Man list. Men are different. We aren't that complicated. We just want respect publicly and privately, and to spend time with someone who doesn't throw dishwater on us. We don't want to come home to strong criticisms or have you question our every decision or motive. Our relationship oxygen is knowing that you trust, admire, desire and believe in me. This Christmas, the truth is comforting - we've made it this far, we've stayed the course. That's a major achievement. Merry Christmas, babe!
