1. Support small and medium enterprises...
...by eating bacon, buying vintage dresses and spending at hundreds of other merchants.
Did you know that a whopping 99 percent of the businesses in Singapore are Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)? Yeah, we didn’t either. Celebrate these businesses and the entrepreneurial folks behind them by buying from, dining at and using services from hundreds of SMEs and get special offers and rewards.
Details and the list of merchants are at www.99sme.sg. On the list is local bacon-centric café Oh My Bacon (7 Dunlop Street, www.omb.sg), where you can sample dishes such as Oomph Shrooms (mushroom soup with a slice of bacon, in pic on right). Quote “99SME” to get a free ice-cream topped with bacon bits with any purchase of a main course during 99%SME Week.
Also on the list is the fab Déjà Vu Vintage (#01-70 Millenia Walk, dejavuvintage.com), where you get 10 per cent off your first vintage dress when you quote “99SME”. Get shopping, stat!

2. Lather up with soap that could save your life
October is breast cancer awareness (BCA) month, but the idea is for women to do regular breast self-examinations during all the months of the year. Hence, the LADYSAVER SOAP ($80 for a box of 12). Each sweet rose-shaped bauble contains a little plastic reminder disc to “check breasts”, which is gradually revealed with every shower. They’re produced in collaboration with local artisanal soap-making company Soap Ministry, and profits of these handmade soaps — which contain organic goat’s milk, rose essential oils and vitamin E — go to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Available at soapministry.com/bcf/and Soap Ministry at Liang Court.
