“If your maid knows your kids very well, it means she’s doing a good job and is taking good care of them. That’s a positive way of looking at it. But [if your kids are very close to the maid and not to you], it’s a wake-up call for mums to put in more effort to spend time with their kids. If I’m not filming, I spend all my time with my kids. It’s not easy for working mums, but I think it’s a matter of choice, and also good time management. A great way to bond with your kids, even if you have very limited time, is to read a book together at bedtime. That little book helps you to become closer, and your kids will start talking to you. That’s when you can understand how much they’ve developed.”

BEST MOTHER’S DAY GIFT: It’s always been drawings and arts and crafts from the kids. For my birthday one year, my son bought me a semi-precious stone that was my birthstone. He’s very into semi-precious stones and reads all about them. He told me, ‘Mummy, I could only afford to buy the pendant, but not the necklace.’ It was so cute.”

“I won’t let my helper accompany my kids to sleep, no matter how late I get home from work every day. From when they were born, they’ve always slept with me. I will also make it a point to cook and have dinner with them whenever I can, so that I will know what’s happening with them in school.”

BEST MOTHER’S DAY GIFT: “When my daughters were very young and didn’t have enough money, they went to the market near our house to buy agar agar powder and made an agar agar cake for me.”

“Edmund [Chen] and I always ensure that at least one parent is at home to accompany our kids. I sleep with my kids so I can spend quality time with them before bed. We also have a regular family day, where we’ll go out for an activity, like watch a movie or have a picnic by the beach.”

BEST MOTHER’S DAY GIFT: “My son and daughter once made a little book, and in it, they drew some very kiddy drawings and wrote a few words about me, such as ‘my mum is a fashion designer’ along with a drawing of me helping them to select their outfits. Edmund saw it and was very envious and said he also wanted one! So the kids made one for him for Father’s Day.”

“I’m quite a hands-on mother — my sons’ daily meals are all planned by me. If I’m not working, I’d go to the market to buy food, then brief my helper on what to cook for them.”

BEST MOTHER’S DAY GIFT: “The year that I recovered from [breast] cancer, my son wrote a message to me on Instagram. He said that I’m a great fighter and that he’s so proud of me. He understands everything that I’ve been going through ’cos he was me with me the entire way. I was worried that he would be disturbed or ashamed of me, but instead, he’s not afraid.”
