Conquer the night in Singapore and Taipei at OSIM Sundown Marathon

Singapore's iconic night race will debut in Taipei later this month

Are you an athlete? A night owl? A jetsetter? How about all three? Then you’ll be thrilled to learn that Singapore’s iconic night run, OSIM Sundown Marathon will celebrate its 10th year anniversary by going up north; that is, by debuting in Taipei on 17 January 2017.

Like its Singapore counterpart, OSIM Sundown Marathon Taipei 2017 will offer a number of race categories suitable for runners of all fitness levels. Beginners can choose to enjoy the 5km Fun Run while those up for a challenge can choose from the 10km, 23km, or 42.195km race categories. We’re not going to lie: we’re a little envious that runners in Taipei will complete the race in Taiwan’s deliciously cold winter weather, against the scenic Dajia Riverside Park.

Sundown Marathon’s international ambitions should come as no surprise, as the 2016 race in Singapore featured over 40 per cent of overseas race entrants from countries such as Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and China.

“We have been planning to go regional for quite some time, and with Sundown celebrating its 10th year, it is timely for us to go abroad to reach out to more people in different countries,” said Adrian Mok, Managing Director of HiVelocity Events, the organiser of Sundown Marathon. “The Singapore edition has attracted a significant number of foreigners, an indicator of the popularity of the race. We’re also grateful to OSIM for lending their continuous support, as this marks a major milestone for Sundown."

In addition to debuting in Taipei, Sundown Marathon has something special for runners in Singapore. OSIM Sundown Marathon Singapore 2017 will be Singapore’s first sustainable marathon, as it will be done in conjunction with WWF’s Earth Hour. The event will take into account total carbon footprint, use of plastics, and waste management.

“Sports and nature are symbiotic. The clean air and water that fuels the run is only possible through responsible environmental management. With over 30,000 people running for a good cause, Earth Hour's partnership with the Sundown Marathon will be an impactful way to bring awareness about sustainability to Singapore,” said Elaine Tan, CEO of WWF-Singapore.

OSIM Sundown Marathon Singapore 2017 will take place on 25 March 2017, at the F1 Pit Building. The 10th edition has brought back the theme of “Sleep Can Wait” - returning to its fundamental ethos of challenging runners to sacrifice sleep, run through the night, and beat the sunrise. This event is presented by Sheng Siong.
