Weird (yet useful) things to buy at Don Don Donki

Look out, Mustafa. There’s a new 24-hour discount megastore in town, and it’s none other than Japan’s Don Quijote, known in Singapore as Don Don Donki, and the first of the brand’s stores in Southeast Asia. Opening this Friday (December 1) in Orchard Central, the two-storey space offers everything from Japanese groceries, to personal goods, to swords for cosplay.

So why open in Singapore, where there are already so many other Japanese discount and lifestyle stores? At a media conference yesterday morning, Don Quijote CEO and founder Takao Yasuda shared that despite migrating here two and a half years ago to semi-retire, he “felt entrepreneurship rise in his heart again” upon realising how much we are paying for Japanese goods. And so Don Don Donki was born.

As far as prices go, the range is somewhere between that of Daiso and Tokyu Hands, but with far quirkier offerings than either. But make sure you carve out adequate time before venturing inside. There are so many goods stockpiled in the place that you could easily spend an afternoon filling your basket with things you didn’t even know that you needed.

We should also add that if you have yet to start Christmas shopping, this would be the PERFECT place to buy unique stocking stuffers and non-boring gifts for colleagues.

Keep reading to see what we spotted inside this labyrinth of discounted goods.

Don Don Donki is located in Orchard Central #B1-15 to #B1-29 and #B2-01, #B2-10, #B2-30 to #B2-43
Open 24 hours Monday to Sunday
