RESOLUTION #1: I will not sleep with my makeup on

We’ve all had those days when we’re so tired that we end up face-planting onto the bed (or sofa), sleeping instantly. But worse yet is that we’ve fallen asleep with an entire face full of makeup. To prevent this from happening, keep a stash of makeup remover wipes by the bed for those times when you’re just too tired to head to the bathroom to clean your face before crashing.

Try: Bifesta Cleansing Oil Wipes, $14.50 (pack of 40 sheets)
Each sheet is infused with a cleansing oil that easily and effectively removes all traces of makeup, including stubborn waterproof and long-lasting liners, lipsticks and even mascara. Skin feeling supple, refreshed and hydrated after. In short, you’ll have no more excuses to sleep with your makeup on.

RESOLUTION #2: I will not pick at my zits anymore

RESOLUTION #2: I will not pick at my zits anymore

Everyone knows that you shouldn’t pick at your zits, yet we can’t help it. Doesn’t help that YouTuber Dr Pimple Popper’s videos seem to make popping zits so satisfying. That said, you should still practise restraint. Popping a pimple might be doing your skin more harm than good as it not only leaves a scar, or worse still, an open wound. In addition, you might also end up pushing the bacteria further into the skin, resulting in a bigger infection.

Try: Innisfree Bija Cica Balm, $35
This lightweight balm contains a powerful cocktail of Centella Asiatica, Bija Oil and D-Panthenol to care for blemish-prone complexions. Best bit? It can be applied all over or as an intensive treatment on troubled spots.

RESOLUTION #3: I will throw out expired makeup

Using dirty makeup and products that have gone past their shelf life can cause problems for your skin, resulting in breakouts, rash or even infections, especially with eye products. To ensure that your makeup products stay in good condition, keep them away from heat and direct sunlight. And if you use makeup brushes, ensure that you wash them at least once a week to prevent product and dirt build-up.

Here’s a simple timeline to follow:
Foundation (liquid): Six months to one year
Foundation + Blusher (powder): Two to three years
Eyeliner + Eyebrow Pencils: Three to five years
Lipsticks: Two to three years
Mascara: Three months

The best thing about getting rid of dirty, old products is that now you have every reason to buy new ones to replenish your stash. Here’s what you can add:

Foundation: Aprilskin Perfect Magic Cover Proof Cushion, $43
It not only gives complexion a flawless, semi-matte finish, but also gives a cooling sensation upon application, perfect for Singapore’s often hot and humid climate. Plus, it’s sweat-resistant and waterproof too.

Eyeliner: Shiseido Makeup ArchLiner Ink, $45
Its specially designed angled micro tip ensures that you get the most precised line each and every time. Also boasts a quick-dry formula that provides up to 24 hours of waterproof colour so it doesn’t budge.

Mascara: Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara, $46
A mascara that lengthens, volumises and curls for flutter-worthy lashes thanks to its unique 4D-Amplifier brush.

Lipstick: Clarins Joli Rouge, $40
A long-wearing creamy lipstick that contains organic Marsh Samphire extract, it keeps lips soft and supple while delivering a soft shine. Now comes in four new shades.

RESOLUTION #8: I will not neglect my hands

Beside your eyes and neck, your hands are also one of the first few places to show signs of ageing. Considering how much we do with our hands, it is unfortunate that this is one area that we often neglect. But just like the skin on our faces, the skin of our hands age as well, becoming dry and showing signs of pigmentation and wrinkles.

To ensure that hands stay smooth and soft, scrub hands once a week, just like you would with your face. And when applying skincare to the face, just lightly dab the excess products onto the backs of the hands as well. And keep a hand cream in your bag so that you can moisturise your hands anytime, anywhere.
