The perfect colour to wear this year

Symbolising the element of Fire, red is not only the secondary energy form of the Pig, it can also serve as an energy stabiliser for many zodiac signs. This is why the colour red (to be specific, it has to be a bold red) is the perfect shade to include for the Year of the Golden Pig according to Feng Shui masters.

Here’s how you can wear this vivid hue during the festive season, according to makeup artist Larry Yeo:

1.     When it comes to wearing a vibrant red, the general rule is: The fairer the skin, the more blue/cool tones your red lipstick can have. But it doesn’t mean that those with tan or darker skin tones cannot wear a bold red. All you need to do is even out the lips with a lip-liner in a similar shade to your natural lip colour, then apply the bright red lipstick over.

2.     Not confident with a bold red lip? Try a red flush instead. Apply lip balm onto the lips first, then blot away the excess. Dab your favourite red lipstick onto the centre of the lips — do make sure that there is still some lip balm on the lips when doing so — and using your ring finger, smudge the colour all over.

3.     Yes, you can even wear red on the eyes. Ensure that you define the eyes with a black eyeliner and use lots of mascara or false lashes to separate the red eyeshadow from any potential red flush in the eyes. Or apply a deep brown eyeshadow on the outer corners of the eyelids to add depth to the red tone.

4.     Avoid red eye makeup if you have blood shot eyes or if the whites of your eyes have yellow tinge.

5.     Be different and try wearing red across the whole face in monochromatic tones. Diffuse the colour on the eyes or lips, do a soft wash of colour as a blush on the cheeks, and use a red lip gloss - apply then blot for a stain - instead of a lipstick on the lips.
