Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk SPF 50+ PA++++

What it does: The beloved Japanese sunscreen now includes Aqua Booster Ex Technology, which uses friction-resistant plate-shaped powders that adhere close to the skin, making the formula sweat-proof, waterproof, and sand-resistant.

Why we liked it: With resistance to friction and skincare ingredients like super hyaluronic acid and green tea, Anessa’s skincare milk not only applies beautifully, but it tided us through all the sticky days we suffered in May. While we wouldn’t advise anyone to forgo the shade of an umbrella completely, the stronger formula can give you peace of mind on pool, beach, or sports days when you can’t avoid the sun. We should also mention that the texture also makes it effective as a primer, so if you want to skip a step in your morning routine, there’s that. It’s also available in spray form (for $30.90) if you need touch-ups!

Available at selected Watsons, Welca-BHG, BHG and Don Don Donki for $39.90

Astalift flarosso Luci Highlighter
Astalift flarosso Luci Highlighter
30 May 2018

Astalift flarosso Luci Highlighter

What it is: For its first makeup collection, Astalift used two colour technologies from its parent company, Fujifilm:  the Overlay Effect, to produce vivid hues; and the Edge Effect, to give the colours more depth. The star product of this flamingo-inspired collection is the Astalift flarosso Luci Highlighter, whose pearly hues will give you just a touch of luminosity.

Why we liked it: Way too many highlighters look good in selfies, but way too stark in person. Some even highlight the bumps on our faces rather than our cheekbones. Not this one. The fine powder sat perfectly on our foundation and was easy to build. While the effect might be too subtle for some, those who are inexperienced with highlighter or prefer a natural look should definitely give this one a shot.

Available at Astalift stores for $55

The Body Shop Body Yogurt

What it is: You’ve heard of body milk, body butter, and body sorbet – now how ‘bout body yogurt? The Body Shop’s latest innovation, which applies best on damp skin (so right when you’re out of the shower), absorbs within 15 seconds.

Why we liked it: This is the perfect lightweight moisturiser for anyone who hates applying moisturiser. The gel-like formula absorbs almost instantly and feels non-sticky, even after we started sweating. And it’s available in 5 classic Body Shop “flavours”: Almond Milk, Strawberry, British Rose, Mango, and Moringa.

Available at Body Shop stores for $20

Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity Day Cream

Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity Day Cream

What it does: Formulated with SPF15 and UVA protection, Eucerin’s everyday moisturiser combats ageing by protecting the skin from external pollutants that can stress it out.

Why we liked it: The formula, despite being on the thicker side, applies smoothly and holds up well beneath makeup. As intimidated as we were when we first touched the product, we found, to our surprise, that it kept our faces moisturised without leaving any residual tackiness. We also liked wearing it on weekends at home, when we wouldn’t be wearing makeup, and appreciated how the SPF and UVA protection gave us peace of mind whenever we sat by a window.

Porcelain HA+ Hydrating Serum

What it is: Homegrown spa and skincare brand Porcelain has created a serum that not only restores the skin’s water levels, but it helps combat acne with an anti-bacterial blend consisting of breakout-banishing probiotics. Other key ingredients include soothing aloe vera and elderflower, anti-ageing Wakame (seaweed), and dual-chained hyaluronic acid for hydration.

Why we liked it: While we normally take our probiotics in the form of Vitagen and Yakult, we were eager to try how it worked out in a serum. We’re happy to report that this gel-like serum keeps our skin looking plump and clear amidst long and stressful days at work.

$198 for 30ml, available at Porcelain spas and on Porcelain’s new e-store, shopporcelain.com

IGK Low Key Cleansing Walnut Scalp Scrub

IGK Low Key Cleansing Walnut Scalp Scrub

What it does: This cooling scalp scrub uses sugar and walnut shell to exfoliate and eliminate buildup, while apple cider vinegar and peppermint oil rebalance and clarify the scalp. Basically, it’s like an at-home scalp treatment.

Why we liked it: The clean and cooling effect is, in a word, SHIOK. Working it into a lather and massaging it across our entire head is a bit laborious, as it is with any kind of hair scrub, but we love how purified our scalp feels afterward.

Innisfree 3-Minute Green Tea Skin Pack, 100 sheets

What it does: These 3-in-1 cotton pad-sized sheets, which are soaked in green tea water, remove flakiness, cool the skin, and deliver quick hydration. Simply leave one on a dry area of the face for about three minutes, remove, and then lightly dab it in the surrounding areas to finish.

Why we liked it: This helps us achieve some much-needed light exfoliation in the morning since we’ve lately been sleeping with the air conditioner on all night. Leave it on while you’re toweling off or reading the morning news, pat off the excess, and applying regular skincare afterward.

$29, available at innisfree stores islandwide

Kerastase Paris Detoxifying Scalp Ritual

Kerastase Paris Detoxifying Scalp Ritual

What it does: Does your scalp need a major intervention? Kerastase’s Detoxifying Scalp Ritual offers three types of rituals to target your specific needs: the Purifying Ritual combats dandruff, the Clarifying Ritual fights oiliness, while the Calming Ritual soothes and purifies a sensitive scalp.

Why we liked it: With the help of a scalp diagnosis tool, our stylist determined that our scalp is normal to oily, with just slight buildup and minimal hair loss, so we tried the Clarifying Ritual. Our scalp felt much cleaner and our hair, subsequently bouncier.

Kerastase Paris Fusio-Thermie intensive hair treatment

Kerastase Paris Fusio-Thermie intensive hair treatment

What it does: This 35-minute session targets your hair’s primary and secondary needs, locking in the nutrients using a flat iron of your choice, to create a customised hair treatment. The treatment begins with a hair wash, followed by a concentrate directed at four primary needs: nourishment and softness, intense shine, in-depth reconstruction, and immediate densification. After that comes the booster, which you can choose based on your secondary need, be it radiance, frizz control, or breakage. Then come some of the coolest flat irons we’ve ever seen: an argain oil infused flat iron, for dry and frizzy hair; and a diamond dusted flat iron with infrared light, for damaged and colour-treated hair.

Why we liked it: Honestly, it was a little tough to single out a primary and secondary need, as our hair is replete with problems, so thankfully our stylist at Mi The Salon was able to make the decision for us. She recommend the Concentre Ole-Fusion, for nourishment and softness (as our hair is rather dry), followed by the 72H frizz control and smoothness manageability booster, locking it in with the argan oil infused flat iron. Afterward, our hair felt hydrated, yet lighter than ever.

A first trial is available at Mi the Salon for $138 for short hair, and $168 for long hair

Laneige Water Bank Hydro Essence and Water Bank Hydro Mist
Laneige Water Bank Hydro Essence and Water Bank Hydro Mist
30 May 2018

Laneige Water Bank Hydro Essence and Water Bank Hydro Mist

What they do: Laneige’s newly refreshed Water Bank line includes two “sub-line”: the Water Bank Hydro, for oily skin, delivers hydration and is suitable for dry skin lacking water; and the Water Bank Moisture, for dry to combination skin, which aids barrier recovery and is suitable for dry skin lacking oil. Each line contains an essence and a mist, which derive their ingredients from super-veggies like kale, watercress, beet, brussels sprout, artichoke, and lima bean.

Why we liked it: Firstly, these products are as fragrant as ever, as per the rest of Laneige’s Water Bank Line. While we can’t say we prefer Moisture over Hydro, or vice versa, since they target different needs, we did rather enjoy the refreshing texture of the Hydro mist and essence.

Prices range from $22-$60. Available at all Laneige boutiques and counters and on Lazada Singapore.

Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick

Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick

What it does: With its slim size and bullet-shaped tip, this highly-pigmented creamy matte lipstick is practically a two-in-one lipstick and lip liner.

Why we liked it: Simply put, it’s ridiculously easy to apply and remarkably resilient. We applied it right before a mala steamboat dinner, and aside from some slight fading where we’d patted our lips with a tissue, it held up. We honestly don’t know whether to feel impressed or unsettled.

$40, available in 24 colours at Laura Mercier stores

Mamonde Moistrue Ceramide Light Cream
Mamonde Moistrue Ceramide Light Cream
30 May 2018

Mamonde Moistrue Ceramide Light Cream

What it does: Ceramides, which provide and lock in intense moisture, are all the rage in K-skincare right now. And Mamonde’s newly upgraded Moisture Ceramide Line now comes with twice the concentration of Hibiscus extract to further fortify the skin’s moisture barrier.

Why we liked it: Our favourite product in this line is the Mamonde Moisture Ceramide Light Cream, which does what it has to without making us feel like we are wearing anything. The scent is also extremely mild, perhaps even indiscernible (good news for anyone sensitive to fragrances). It might not have a lot of bells and whistles, but it's our best ally in our overly air-conditioned offices.

$45, available at the Mamonde boutique and counters, as well as on Lazada

MDNA Skin The Rose Mist
MDNA Skin The Rose Mist

MDNA Skin The Rose Mist

What it does: Madonna’s skincare line, which arrived in Singapore in April, includes a product we've seen her toting around on social media: the MDNA Rose Mist, which uses M.T. PARCA Thermal Water from Italy, among other ingredients like spirulina and Damascus Rose fragrances to refresh and tone the skin. Apparently, she cares it around in her bag and has called it her “desert island” product.

Why we liked it: We’ll admit that we were – and continue to be – a little perplexed at the price of this toner spray. $185 for 150ml of fancy face water?! But we’ll admit that if you really want to splurge, this product is rather nice, and hydrates our parched skin in the office without making our foundation all streaky. We’ve also taken to spraying ourselves with it after braving the sun during lunch, and will acknowledge that it makes us feel as if we’re bathing in rose petals. So yeah. If you want to treat yourself – or a loved one – to what is perhaps the most high SES facial spray ever, MDNA’s Rose Mist is a great choice.

$185, available at the MDNA Skin counter in Takashimaya

Vichy Idealia Lumiére Illuminating Moisture Night Peeling Care
Vichy Idealia Lumiére Illuminating Moisture Night Peeling Care

Vichy Idealia Lumiére Illuminating Moisture Night Peeling Care

What it is: Do chemical peels and exfoliates irritate your skin? Using a blend of vitamin-laden Kombucha, antioxidant blueberry polyphenols, and  the Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water, the Vichy Idealia Lumiére Illuminating Moisture Night Peeling Care, formulated for sensitive skin, does the job without causing redness or discomfort.

Why we liked it: We’re a little sensitive to alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), so we were a little bit wary about trying this, lest it make our skin burn and break out like so many other similar products do. So we were thrilled to discover that Vichy's non-abrasive peeling toner helps us achieve the post-peel glow without suffering the consequences. Our skin looks a lot brighter after using this at night, and as a bonus, the product smells like berries.

The Vichy Idealia Lumiére Night Peeling retails at $40 and will be available at leading pharmacies including Watsons, Guardian, Unity and selected hospital pharmacies
