Dr Bronner’s, from $7.50

Founded in 1948 by Emanuel Bronner, Dr Bronner’s is the top-selling organic liquid and bar soap brand from the United States. Every product is not only vegan but it’s also free of synthetic preservatives, petrochemicals and synthetic foaming agents. In addition, each is also certified cruelty-free and comes in 100 per cent recyclable packaging.

The Dr Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap, which comes in eight scents, is the most popular. Our favourite is the Peppermint scent, which is really invigorating and perfect for mornings when we’ve got to drag our tired selves to work. Our next favourite is the Organic Lip Balm, which nourishes the lips, leaving it soft and moisturised.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Makeup Primer and CC+ Airbrush Perfecting Powder

A primer that is ideal for Singapore’s humid weather, the new Your Skin But Better Makeup Primer Oil-Free ($62) contains a unique All Day Grip Technology that acts like a magnet for your makeup, ensuring that it lasts all day. The CC+ Airbrush Perfecting Powder ($60), on the other hand, not only helps set makeup but also gives complexion a smooth and flawless finish with skin-loving ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Collagen and Silk, Niacin and Peptides, as well as optical-blurring pigments. No filters required for that perfect selfie anymore.

There is a slight silicone finish to the oil-free primer, but it did make our complexions look smoother instantly. And when paired with the CC+ Oil-Free Matte base makeup, our skin looked really natural, just better. Did wish the Powder came with a brush though, to make application easier. But the portable size means it’s great for touch-ups anytime, anywhere.

Act+Acre Cold Pressed Haircare, from $41

Newly launched in January 2019 in the United States, this is the first haircare brand that uses a unique and patented cold-pressed technique, retaining 97 per cent more active ingredients than traditional haircare products. The trio of products are also free from silicone, sulphate, paraben and gluten, while remaining oh-so-gentle even on the most sensitive of scalps. Plus, this heat-free process ensures that the formulas are not only better for your hair and scalp, but for the environment too.

The subtle herbaceous scent is refreshing and made us feel like we had signed up for a hair spa. The Scalp Detox has a slight tingling feel when applied, and can be used as an overnight treatment to soothe and re-balance the scalp. Just a little goes a long way too. But the most surprising of the lot was the Hair Conditioner that managed to nourish and hydrate our freshly dyed hair, leaving it soft and tangle-free.

Available exclusively at Sephora stores.

Sigi Skin Dew Potion, $48

Sigi Skin Dew Potion, $48

A lightweight essence mist packed with antioxidants to slow down free radical damage from environmental aggressors like pollution, and keep premature signs of ageing at bay. It contains Chamomile extract to soothe and heal the skin, as well as a unique Aqua 3g that consists of Glyceryl-Glucoside to hydrate the skin and retain its moisture levels.

Unlike most mists that are made up of water, this contains 55 per cent of Chamomile Flower extract and 27 per cent of Aqua 3g. In fact, no water is used in this essence mist. Hence, it can be used as a toner or essence, after cleansing, and immediately leaves skin soft and supple. It absorbs well, and leaves no tacky finish behind. Honestly, we love how soft our skin feels that we can’t help re-reaching for it throughout the day - it can also be used over makeup to refresh the face too.

Urban Decay Vice Lip Chemistry, $34

A high-gloss tint that reacts to your lips’ natural pH to create a custom lip shade that is unique to your tone. So even though there are 12 different shades to choose from, how it appears on your friend won’t be the same as how it looks on you. Plus, each shade has also been created to be flattering on most skin tones.

This gloss has a balm-like texture so it’s actually feels nourishing on the lips at the same time. And unlike some tints and stains, our lips never felt dry with the Vice Lip Chemistry despite its long-lasting formula. We tested it out over lunch, and were pleasantly surprised to see a hint of colour still left after.

Available at the Urban Decay boutique (#B1-31 Ngee Ann City) and Sephora stores.

Kiehl’s Avocado Nourishing Hydration Mask, $69

Kiehl’s Avocado Nourishing Hydration Mask, $69

This facial mask truly looks good enough to eat. Made with Avocado Fruit extract, Avocado and Evening Primrose oils, this promises to hydrate and nourish the skin, leaving it soft and oh-so-supple instantly after.

Fortunately, unlike using a DIY avocado mask, this is much easier to use and a little less messy too. But just like using real avocados, this mask has a chunky texture when applied, and is best applied using the fingers. But what we really like was how soft and smooth our skin felt instantly after. Works well not just for dry skins, but even for our combination skin too.

Available at Kiehl’s boutiques and counters.

Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Fusion, $52

Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Fusion, $52

A new-generation liquid lip colour that contains a unique blend of polymers, gel, soft oils and ultra-fine colour pigments that once applied onto the lips, evaporates away, leaving behind a matte colour that is budge-proof.

Easily one of the most lightweight lip colours we’ve tried. Its weightless sensation is just like second-skin; like you’re wearing nothing at all. The colour is also intense, and one slick is all you need for a bold finish. And unlike other matte lip colours that can accentuate every line and dryness on your lips, this contains Vitamin E to keep lips supple and soft throughout.

Choose from 12 shades.

Available at Chanel Beauty boutiques and counters.

The updated formulations also include a new active ingredient, Organic Fructans, that boosts micro-circulation for a healthy scalp and stronger hair. The full range consists of 34 different products from shampoos and conditioners to treatments.

The Guardian exclusives, Shine Shampoo and Shine Conditioner, are ideal for dull looking hair. It contains antioxidant-rich Marigold oil to protect the hair while leaving it smooth and lustrous. Heroine Make Super Waterproof Mascara Volume & Curl (Brown), $21.90
Heroine Make Super Waterproof Mascara Volume & Curl (Brown), $21.90

Heroine Make Super Waterproof Mascara Volume & Curl (Brown), $21.90

Your favourite Heroine Make mascara now comes in a natural-looking brown shade. It contains the same Shape-sustaining Power Curl Setting Polymer and a Super Guard Polymer to keep the curl in place for more than 24 hours, making it water-, sweat-, sebum- and smudge-resistant. Plus, it also has a Volume Separate Powder to makes lashes look thicker and fuller.

The brown shade is a little brighter than other mascaras we’ve tried, but it still leaves the lashes looking very natural. The tapered wand also makes application a breeze and is able to coat even the shortest lash easily. A word of caution though, do not apply too many coats - two is sufficient, because the formula can flake and leave little brown specks just below your eyes.

Available at Watsons and Don Don Donki stores.

Two Lips Pout, $180

Two Lips Pout, $180

Just like the skin on the rest of your face and body, your lady bits can get dry too. This lightweight serum promises to instantly soothe and hydrate dry skin, plumping it from within and keeping the skin soft and supple. Enriched with 95 per cent pure Hyaluronic Acid, it contains no parabens, sulphates and petrochemicals, and has also been dermatologically and gynaecologically tested to be safe to use on all skin types, and on the face and body.

The gel-like texture absorbs quickly and leaves the area feeling refreshed. We even tested it out on freshly shaven legs and on a particularly dry and rough patch on our jawline. It not only instantly soothed the skin but left it really smooth too. And being scent-free, it was perfect for our sensitive skins as well.

Available at Strip boutiques and Twolips.vip.

Our favourites are the White Beauty Glow Gel Cream and the White Beauty Serum in CC SPF50+/PA++++. Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Sheer Matte, $54
Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Sheer Matte, $54
25 Oct 2019

Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Sheer Matte, $54

Delivers beautiful buildable colour in a sheer, semi-matte finish, the new Slim Sheer Matte lipstick gives an airbrushed finish and feels lightweight on the lips. Comes in 12 alluring and wearable shades.

Compared to The Slim Matte that was launched last year, the Slim Sheer Matte is more comfortable on the lips, thanks to its slight creamy texture. It’s not a pure matte finish but gives a soft sheen. But what we like most about it is the buildable colour intensity - one swipe gives a wash of colour while two to three delivers a more intense finish. It also has great staying power, lasting through a whole meal too.

Available at Yves Saint Laurent Beauté counters and boutiques.

M.A.C Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation Stick and Complete Coverage Cushion Compact SPF50/PA++++

The cult favourite Studio Fix collection now offers two new base makeup options - Foundation Stick and Cushion Compact, with both promising shine-free, buildable coverage that lasts up to 24 hours. The Foundation Stick ($59) comes in 33 shades while the Cushion Compact ($63) has 24 shades, so there’s enough variety to suite a wide range of skin tones.

Our new favourite to combat heat and humidity is the Foundation Stick. It’s staying prowess is amazing and it even doubles up as a concealer too. We road-tested it during a recent K-pop concert, and hours later, our complexion was still flawless.

Available at M.A.C boutiques and stores.

The lightweight gel-cream sinks into the skin easily, leaving it feeling super soft instantly. The fragrance-free formula is also welcomed as it doesn’t irritate any of our senses.
