Urban Decay x Game of Thrones makeup collection, from $31

This is one for all the GoT fans. The collection consists of 13 products - Eyeshadow Palette, Highlighting Palette, Lip and Cheek Stain, four new 24/7 Glide-On Pencils, four new Vice Lipsticks and two eyeshadow brushes that have been inspired by the swords of GoT characters Jon Snow and Arya Stark.

Our favourite is the Eyeshadow Palette, but of course. The eyeshadows are divided into the four houses - Targaryen, Lannister, Stark and White Walkers, with each house also tagged with a specific holographic transformer shade that can be used on its own or layered over the other colours. As with all palettes, there will be shades that you’ll use more of and some that you’ll barely touch. But the nice thing is that there is something for everyday use and for special occasions when you want to experiment a little. The transformer shades tend to have a bit more powder kickback, so do tap off the excess from your brush before application.

Available at Urban Decay boutique and Sephora stores. Exclusively available on sephora.sg on April 29 for a special 24-hours flash sale as well.

Floraiku fragrances, from $100

Inspired by three Japanese traditional ceremonies - Tea, Flowers and Incense, the Floraiku fragrance collection consists of 11 scents. The brand also has two unique stand-alone fragrances, called shadow fragrances, that are meant to worn with any of your favourite Floraiku fragrance to either uplift or add depth to the scent. But to be honest, the shadow scents are perfectly suitable to be worn alone. Each scent lasts throughout the day and with its handy 10ml purse spray size, you can bring it along in your bag for a spritz anytime. A definite splurge, but it’s worth it.

Nivea Micellair Professional Micellar Water, $19.90

In addition to Nivea’s patented MicellAIR Complex, this new Micellar Water now includes a Dry Oil and Black Tea extract that acts like a magnet to lift away traces of makeup and impurities, while leaving skin clean and without a greasy film. Best bit? It doesn’t take much effort to clean away makeup, even stubborn waterproof liners and mascara, so you won’t be tugging at the skin unnecessarily. It’s also fragrance-free, which is good for sensitive skins.

Barry M Cosmetics Unicorn Primer Drops, $18.90

An innovative oil-free makeup primer with skin-loving ingredients like Acai and Goji berries, Watermelon and Tamarind, it smooths, preps and brightens at the same time. Just a small amount is enough to cover the whole face, if not it can get a little too dewy (read: shiny). The oil-free formulation is also ideal for those with oilier complexions as it doesn’t aggravate the problem. Instead, it absorbs well and gives the complexion a subtle glow.

Pixi Beauty Hydrogel Eye Patches, $38 each (30 pairs)

Comes in two variants - DetoxifEYE and FortifEYE. The former helps de-puff the eye area using Hyaluronic Acid and Caffeine, and promises to reduce the appearance of dark circles while the latter contains Botanical Collagen and Peptides to firm and lift the area while keeping the delicate eye area smooth and looking refreshed. Each eye mask is really thin so applying it can be a little tricky as it slips and slides around a little, but the spatula applicator does help. Just 10 minutes is all you need to get eyes looking bright-eyed and refreshed. Perfect for use in the mornings.

Supergoop! Superscreen Daily Moisturizer SPF40, $55

An everyday moisturiser that hydrates the skin and protects it from harmful UV rays, pollution and even blue light. The plant fermentation extract acts as a moisture barrier to lock in hydration and keep environmental aggressors out while the Cerium extract blocks blue light to keep skin healthy from the inside-out. Application-wise, a little goes a long way, and the cream is lightweight and absorbs well, leaving skin feeling comfortable and not tacky. The subtle scent is also reminiscent of old-school sunscreens that we find both familiar and comforting.

Paul & Joe Makeup Collection, from $25

The good news - Paul & Joe makeup fans will be glad to know that the brand is back in Singapore. The not so good news - It’s back for a limited time only, till September 2019.

For this pop-up, the brand is bringing back some of its iconic products, especially its Foundations and Primers. Our favourites are the iconic Protecting Foundation Primer S that delivers sun protecting properties (SPF42/PA+++) and helps makeup last longer as well as the Gel Foundation N with its balm-to-powder finish that hydrates the skin yet doesn’t feel uncomfortable in Singapore’s humidity. And our new must-have, the Treatment Lipstick. It contains Jojoba and Macadamia Nut oils to keep lips smooth and supple, and of course its oh-so-adorable kitten shaped bullet makes this such a delightful addition to any makeup bag.

Ryo Haircare, from $9.90

With its belief that strong hair comes from a healthy scalp, Korean brand Ryo Haircare utilises its over 46 years of research and development to create a range of haircare products to do just that. The star ingredient is the Ginseng Saponins, a rich antioxidant that helps boost cell regeneration at the scalp while healing damaged hair at the same time.

Choose from four different ranges - Hair Loss, Damage Care, Deep Cleansing and Dandruff Relief. Each range offers a shampoo and treatment to cleanse and nourish both hair and scalp. The Hair Loss range in particular offers two different shampoos based on your scalp conditions - Normal & Dry and Oily, while the Hair Loss Care Treatment gives scalp a minty feel, which awakens and freshens the senses. The treatment is surprisingly nourishing enough to even leave our coloured hair soft and manageable after. Plus, we love the ginseng scent it leaves on our hair too.

My Clarins Skincare Collection, from $28

My Clarins Skincare Collection, from $28

This new Clarins skincare collection includes up to 95 per cent natural active ingredients and is completely vegan. It is also the brand’s first collection that is aimed at millennials and comes with wallet-friendly prices too. It focuses on hydrating the skin and keeping it healthy and radiant with the use of Coconut Water, Alpenrose and Clarins’ Anti-Pollution Complex. A complete range, it offers everything from cleansers and moisturisers - three options to suit different skin types - to speciality care treatments.

A part of us is sad that we’re way past our teenage years, but the good news is that some of these products are still great for our slightly mature skins. Products that work for all ages include the Re-Move Micellar Cleansing Milk that removes all traces of makeup and leaves skin feeling refreshed and supple, Re-Fresh Hydrating Beauty Mist that gives parched skin an instant boost of moisture anytime, anywhere, and the Pore-Less Blur and Matte Stick that controls shine (till mid-day at least) while getting the skin smooth and prepped for makeup that follows.

Available at Clarins boutiques and counters.

Kin Girls Macaron Sheet Mask, $5.90 each
Kin Girls Macaron Sheet Mask, $5.90 each
26 Apr 2019

Kin Girls Macaron Sheet Mask, $5.90 each

The Kin Girls masks contain no chemical additives and only natural extracts making them suitable for most skin types. The sheet masks come in two options - 3D Face Mask and Invisible Face Mask. The former is a plush sheet mask that comes with ear loops for a better fit while the latter is a really thin sheet mask that when applied almost looks like it’s not there, hence the name “invisible”.

The Truffle & Cocoa 3D Face Mask gives the face intense nourishment and hydration, and the added ear loops not only give the mask a good fit, but also helps firm the jawline for that V-shape. The Raspberry Extract Invisible Face Mask repairs and brightens the skin but can be a little tricky to apply as it is super thin. In addition, as the essence is quite watery in texture, it would be better to be relaxing in bed during mask time for this.

Available at Guardian Pharmacy stores.

Hirosophy Cell Bright Caviar Mask, $132.30 (10 sheets) and Sakura Pearl Mask, $52.90 (10 sheets)
Hirosophy Cell Bright Caviar Mask, $132.30 (10 sheets) and Sakura Pearl Mask, $52.90 (10 sheets)
26 Apr 2019

Hirosophy Cell Bright Caviar Mask, $132.30 (10 sheets) and Sakura Pearl Mask, $52.90 (10 sheets)

This new to Singapore Japanese brand, Hirosophy, uses high-grade active ingredients, especially Pig Placenta, in its wide range of skincare products. And these two sheet masks, in particular, are well-loved by Asian celebrities like Fan Bing Bing, Gong Li, Jenny Zhang and Tong Yao.

The Caviar Mask is infused with Caviar extract together with Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen, EGF and Pig Placenta extract to boost skin’s hydration and elasticity. Each mask pack comes with a piece for the face and another for the neck, which is great as it reminds us to give this often-neglected area some TLC. In just 15 minutes, skin is soft and supple. It’s our new must-have on vacations, especially to countries with drier weather. PS. We hear that this mask is often sold out and when stocks are running low, the brand limits each customer’s purchase to two or six boxes depending on the situation.

The Sakura Pearl Mask, on the other hand, contains Cherry Blossom, Collagen, Pearl and Pig Placenta powders to brighten the complexion while reducing the signs of pigmentation and also hydrate the skin. Skin gets that lit-from-within glow after, making this mask a great booster to use just before a special event.

Available exclusively at Make Hero, #B1-281 Jewel Changi Airport.

TRESemmé X Hatsuga Signature Oil-Infused Hair and Scalp Service, $138
TRESemmé X Hatsuga Signature Oil-Infused Hair and Scalp Service, $138
26 Apr 2019

TRESemmé X Hatsuga Signature Oil-Infused Hair and Scalp Service, $138

The hour-long TRESemmé X Hatsuga Signature Oil-Infused Hair and Scalp Service, which costs $138 per session regardless of hair length, is customised based on one’s mane concerns, which are expressed through a brief questionnaire. The first step consists of a very cooling, shiok pre-treatment and massage service for the scalp using aloe vera cream and avocado oil (for dry, sensitive scalps) or organic sea salt (for oily scalps), followed by a five-minute Blue Light Therapy session, which helps to detox the scalp.

After this, it was off to the washing stations, where a prescribed TRESemmé shampoo and conditioner were used, and then hair treatment, where a few drops of its Keratin Smooth Anti-Frizz Shine Serum were mixed with the Keratin Smooth Anti-frizz Hair Mask for deep conditioning. This was followed by a rather fascinating Nano mist technology service, which is said to allow for better absorption of the mask and serum.

TRESemmé X Hatsuga Signature Oil-Infused Hair and Scalp Service, $138

More spraying was involved in the scalp treatment, where a customised Hatsuga scalp tonic was applied before a 10-minute steaming session. And finally, the finishing step of the service was the spraying (again) of the Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Hair Spray before blow-drying and styling.

While it sounds like a lot of steps and a great deal of pampering, what’s great is that this hair treatment can be replicated - to a certain extent, at least - in the comfort of one’s own home. All you need to do is mix a few drops of the serum into the mask, apply it to your hair, leave it for 15 to 20 minutes, and rinse it off. We've tried it a few times since the treatment and it has proven to be a simple yet effective frizz fighter.

The TRESemmé Hair Care range comes in five different variants (Keratin Smooth, Detox & Nourish, Total Salon Repair, Hair Fall Control, and Scalp Care) and is available at Watson, Guardian, and NTUC FairPrice outlets.

The TRESemmé X Hatsuga Signature Oil-Infused Hair and Scalp Service is available at all Monsoon outlets and is priced at S$138 for one session.
