The VIP Club: Chez Vous
The Luxe Factor
The salon has been a fixture at Ngee Ann City for the past decade, cultivating a pool of regulars drawn to its dedicated service. However, the salon’s new facelift (and newly renovated 2000-sq ft space) takes this to a higher level with several ambitious new initiatives and pop-chic W Hotel-esque interiors. Boasting an “Only Hair Directors Allowed” policy — where only director-level stylists called Hair Experts here — are allowed to tend to your mane, and a highly comprehensive service menu, a visit to Chez Vous is more a trip to a hip urban beauty retreat than to a regular hair salon.
Our eagle eyes spotted a tray of Ladurée teabags and macarons at the reception the minute we walked in — apparently a little treat for unfortunate souls who have to wait for more than 10 minutes (gasp!) for their appointments. Although the complimentary refreshments menu doesn’t include Ladurée tea, it still impresses with a list of artisanal teas, orange juice and a selection of coffees and cookies. If you’ve got the munchies, they’ll provide a food menu to order from (chargeable, of course) and have it delivered to you at your seat. In fact, there’s a prevailing sense that nothing is too much of a bother for the friendly Hair Experts. They’ll supply you with an iPad (complete with free wifi and sanitised earphones) to surf or watch movies on if you’ve forgotten your own entertainment, lend you a charger for your gadgets, and even provide a fluffy pillow for your back. The monthly “#ThursdayisthenewFriday” initiative will see guests enjoying a special treat on a selected Thursday, such as complimentary macarons or bill waivers, while those unhappy with the results from other salons can get their tresses fixed for free with the “We’ll Fix It” programme.
The salon prides itself in its customisable hair treatments and services so as to better cater to each individual’s hair condition and needs. Our coarse hair was pronounced as damaged due to frequent chemical processing, and instead of the typical rebonding, our Hair Expert suggested the more laborious Amplified Treatment Rebond, which combines a keratin treatment on the more damaged, lower half of the head and rebonding on the roots for a healthier-looking effect. We were used to our rebonded hair frizzing at the ends, but this time, our tresses remained smooth and silky to the touch from root to tip, even weeks after our treatment. The Expertligent Red Carpet Hair Treats, from $195, is highly popular with the socialite crowd, we hear, particularly before a big society event.
From $40 for a Cleanse & Blow to upwards of $475 for an Amplified Treatment Perm at #05-05 Ngee Ann City Podium, Tel: 6732-9388.
