5 easy tips to get your bangs looking fresh always
Full, blunt or wispy, bangs are one of the easiest ways to freshen up any hairstyle. Even K-pop girl band Twice’s maknae (also known as the youngest in the group), Tzuyu (centre), recently got herself bangs and it’s got Onces (Twice fans) all excited with her new look.
But we know how tricky having a fringe can be, especially when we’re battling Singapore’s heat and humidity. Here are five easy steps that you can follow to ensure your bangs look fresh and perfect always - and yes, your favourite K-celebs use these tips too.

Step 1: Get a blow-dry
According to many hairstylists and K-pop idols, this is an important first step to getting hair neat and dry. And when it comes to your fringe, regardless of whether it’s a full fringe like Twice’s Momo (left) or wispy like the Iz*One girls Yujin, Yu-ri, and Min-ju (right), always dry the hair in a downward motion, to minimise hair from separating, and creating frizz and fly-away at the same time.

Step 1: Get a blow-dry

Step 2: Lock it in
To ensure that your fringe always looks neat, use a straightening iron to lightly roll the bangs in an inward motion towards the forehead. This helps create the perfect C-shaped fringe that K-celebs like actresses Kim Yoo Jung (left) and Nam Ji Hyun and K-idols Soo-Jin from (G)I-dle and Hani from EXID (right), spot. And to fix it in place, lightly spritz the hair with a strong hold hairspray.

Step 2: Lock it in

Step 3: Roll it in
If you’ve watched enough K-dramas, you would have definitely seen these rollers firmly fixed onto the female protagonist’s forehead. It might look ridiculous, but this roller is extremely useful in keeping your bangs perfectly curled and dry.
The trick to using these is to roll your fringe tightly into the hair roller till it sits just at the scalp, like Hani in the photo above. This is because if the hair isn’t wrapped tight, it can become loose and you’ll lose the curl that you want your bangs to maintain.

Step 3: Roll it in
Try: Etude House My Beauty Tool Hair Roller, $3.90 (pack of three)
While we don’t suggest taking the bus or MRT to work with this, you might still want to keep a roller handy in your bag, so you can re-shape your bangs midday or before heading out for drinks after work. These rollers come in two options - Medium and Large, depending on the size of curls you want to achieve.

Step 4: Keep it dry
If you, like every other fan, have wondered how Blackpink’s Lisa always has perfect bangs - even after a full concert set, her hairstylist has revealed the secret. It’s simple: Besides blow-drying your bangs in a downwards motion, the key is in keeping the hair, especially the roots, as dry as possible so the fringe doesn’t become flat and limp.

Step 4: Keep it dry
Try: Klorane Dry Shampoo, $14.60
When it comes to wicking away the oil from your fringe, dry shampoo can be very useful. To do so, spritz a little dry shampoo onto the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and then run the palms through your bangs, near the hair roots. This ultra-fine powder not only cleans the hair by removing dirt, oil and odours, but it also adds volume to the hair too.

Step 5: Just add powder
Crayon Pop member Way shared in a recent beauty vlog that powder can also be a great tool to use when dealing with sweaty bangs. According to her, when you can’t get access to a hairdryer, the next best alternative is to add powder to your hair, be it baby powder or even loose powder.
Note: Depending on how damp your hair might be, you might want to dry it with a paper towel first before dusting a little powder at the roots to instantly refresh it and get it matte once more.
