Seoul beautiful

While we are very fortunate to be able to get our hands on many exciting K-beauty brands in Singapore, not every brand makes it over. And because we are always on the lookout for effective products that work, we often turn to what celebrities and people in-the-know are using. So why not go straight to the source?

Based on years of personal experience, these K-insiders have created efficient and top-notch beauty products from makeup and skincare to hair and bodycare. In addition, each creator has been heavily involved in the creation of every product, from conceptualisation to testing, to ensure the best results.

The only downside is that these brands are not available in Singapore, so be sure to check them when you head up to Seoul.

The key lies in the ingredient selection, such as biomimetic water, ceramide and hyaluronic acid, that have been specially chosen to be similar to the natural compounds found in the human body.

Han’s personal faves include the All In One Concentrate Treatment Mask and the Ideal Tone Up and Glow B.B. The mask contains brightening and anti-ageing properties in its lightweight milky essence to nourish the skin while the BB cream was the result of Han personally testing 30 samples to ensure that the cream gives skin a natural coverage and a radiant finish.

Lagom

Insider: Makeup artist Hye Kowon
Specialty: Skincare based on a Nobel Prize-winning technology
Where to buy: Chicor Gangnam at 441 Seosan Building, Gangnam-daero Seocho-gu Seoul

Meaning “just the right amount” or “not too little, not too much” in Swedish, Lagom is the brainchild of Hye Kowon, one of Korea’s most iconic makeup artists. With over 30 years of experience, she knows that no amount of makeup can replicate that lit-from-within glow of healthy, well-hydrated skin. This got her thinking and together with a team of experts (12 of them to be exact) including dermatologists, researchers and professors, Lagom was born.

The secret to Lagom lies in its unique hero ingredient, DermaFlux, which is based on a Nobel Prize-winning technology. This ingredient has been clinically proven to fill the skin cells with moisture, plumping them from within, keeping skin well-hydrated. The result is a smooth, supple and healthy complexion.

Must-tries from the brand include the Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser and the Cellus Sun Gel. The former transforms from a gel to a water-based liquid gently removing the impurities while the latter is a lightweight sun protective gel that not only boasts high SPF properties (SPF50/PA+++) yet absorbs easily.

Like us, companies know that women often turn to experts for advice. So what better way than to ask the people who not only know what products are on-trend but also what women want? With this in mind, the Aekyung Group, a leading South Korean company that focuses on beauty, health and home-care products, approached the beauty editors of Singles magazine to collaborate on a beauty brand that would help anyone, man or woman, achieve healthy skin.

This led to the birth of Fflow, a top to toe product line that blends oil and water to create its signature Oilsoo ingredient to help re-balance the skin’s natural oil-water ratio for a healthy complexion.

In addition, each is also dermatologically tested, ensuring that it remains safe to use even on the most sensitive of skins.

To start, try the Oilsoo Cleansing Oil, which effectively removes all traces of makeup and dirt while still being gentle on the skin. Or try the Pick Oil Essence that soothes and revives tired skin while prepping it to receive all the goodness after cleansing.
