7 Spring makeup trends to up your beauty game

Just like the flowers that bloom prettily during Spring, this year’s makeup trends are just as pretty, if not more. There are delicate watercolour inspired eyeshadows to sun-kissed complexions and feline flicks upgraded. The best bit? You can achieve these looks easily too. Here’s what you need to know:

Trend #1: Your skin, but better (The new nude)

Looks like the glowing complexion is here to stay. On the runways of Victoria Beckham, Michael Kors, Badgley Mischka and Off White, models sported a natural gleam on the cheekbones and even foreheads.

A liquid or cream luminiser work best as they give a delicate, almost lit-from-within sheen, but powder highlighters are just as good. Dab on lightly with your fingertips to achieve that lit-from-within glow.

Trend #2: Soft smoky eye

And while smoky eyes are still popular, as seen at Oscar de La Renta, Nicole Miller, Hermes, Dennis Basso and Tom Ford, this season, instead of the deep tones, the look is given a lighter treatment with the use of softer shades. Choose hues of brown, grey, taupe and even amethyst and blend well into the skin for a wispy yet still sultry effect.

Trend #3: Fresh red lips

Every fashion season the red lip always comes up, just with a teeny slight difference each time. Case in point: Givenchy, Chanel, Escada, Lela Rose and Burberry.

A look that will never go out of style, this season, the reds are less true and instead are infused with a tinge of orange. Think Pillarbox red, tomato and vermillion. And instead of the perfectly defined red lip, keep the look a little more casual. Apply the colour straight out of the tube and skip the lip liner too.

Trend #5: Watercolour eyes

Just like a Monet painting, eyes were a-washed with the prettiest colours. Splashes of colour to paint-like strokes were featured prominently across the eyes on the runways of Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs, Missoni, Erdem and Peter Pilotto.

To achieve this, choose pastel hues of blues, pinks or peaches, and sweep it across the entire lid or for a fresh take, dabbed on the inner corners of the eyes. Choose an iridescent or shimmer finish for a softer and more feminine approach.

The inspiration: Twiggy. The look: Mascara-heavy lashes as seen on the runways of Prada, Tom Ford, Chanel and Etro. Be it hastily or carefully applied, it frames the eyes, keeping them the main focus of any look.

Just remember to skip the liner and apply the mascara on both top and bottom lashes.
