INGA

Founded by makeup artist Marie Soh, INGA (Finnish for ‘beautiful’) is a rare homegrown makeup brand that certainly holds its own against the plethora of big, international makeup brands. The 10 long-lasting, high-coverage matte lipstick shades, each named for a word that means ‘beautiful’ in various languages, were created to outlast our high humidity while remaining comfortable and weightless on the lips.

What we like
That the bright shades are as sensual and intense as the more natural tones. We particularly like Lloha, a bright coral-pink, and Tora, a warm ruby-red, to create a dramatic impact, while we’d happily wear Elivra, a super flattering rose-pink, every day. Each INGA lipstick is priced at $29.

The plush, cruelty-free synthetic makeup brushes are not only good for the environment (compared to animal-hair brushes), but are also of a high-level of professional quality. The highly comprehensive range features some interesting brushes like the Universal Do-It-All Face Brush, $39.90, created in collaboration with local celebrity makeup artist Larry Yeo.

What we like
The extremely reasonable prices for such beautifully-made brushes. The value-for-money sets – including the adorable Brea’s Adventures travel set, $129 – are a steal. There are even a 3 and 5-piece customisable sets – something we’ve always wished for in the bigger makeup brands.

Kew Organics

Fans of organic skincare who are also looking for effective solutions to their skin woes will rejoice at this new homegrown label that professes to be the world’s first ‘serious’, water-based and highly targeted organic skincare line. Kew Organics line was conceptualised by facial therapist founder Lily Kew when she was frustrated in her search for suitable organic skincare to use in the organic face treatments offered at the two Kew Organics Organic Facial Bars located here at Everton Park and Clarke Quay Central. The comprehensive 12-product lineup featured rapidly-absorbed water-based textures featuring fresh fruit and botanicals extracts like kiwi fruit, alfafa, pomegranate and dark cherry extracts.

What we like
That each of the products is encased in expensive, dark-coloured Italian Miron glass, which shields the active ingredients inside from exposure to UV rays and maintains the active bio-hertz wavelengths of the ingredients. The Sugar Cane Royal Flush Exfoliant, $69.70, is a unique leave-in exfoliating serum that sloughs off dead skin cells with the help of natural glycolic acid from sugar cane and citrus fruit extracts.

RE:ERTH

The five youthful founders of this Singapore-based skincare label – four are Singaporeans and one, Japanese – were inspired to create a pared-down skincare regimen for time-poor urbanites living in a fast-paced, always-plugged-in world. The six products in the lineup boast ‘mindful’, clean formulations that are powered by unique, natural key active ingredients like Japanese White and Spring Turmeric (the former is patented to the brand). These turmeric variants are grown in the brand’s own farms in Japan and have been proven to yield dramatic improvement to skin hydration, firmness and hyper-pigmentation. The other key actives include colostrum from Danish cows and a state-of-the-art delivery technology called Lipodisq that delivers the actives deep into the skin without leaving a residue on the surface.

What we like
The star product from the range is the Multi-Targeted Elixir, $135, which sinks into the skin in 10 seconds without a trace. After just a week of use, our complexion became tauter, smoother and more radiant, while pores became visibly smaller. The Smoothing Eye Cream, $124, also absorbs quickly while keeping the eye contour hydrated all day and reducing fine lines and wrinkles after a month of use.

RESS

A skincare line based on the humble pandan leaf? RESS is as Singaporean as it gets. Founder Sara Davina Soong was inspired by the detoxifying and stress-relieving properties of the ubiquitious pandan leaf to create the home-spun skincare in her own kitchen that are also free from additives and preservatives.

What we like
The Pandan Leaves Scrub, $35.90 is literally made from dried crushed pandan leaves blended with pandan and lemon essential oils, and smells so yummy that we’re tempted to eat it off our faces. What you can actually eat are the delicious Pandan Balls, $8.90 – crunchy protein balls of assorted nuts infused with pandan essence that we suppose are good for you from the inside-out.

SIX

A Singaporean perfumer creating hip fragrances? You betcha’. SIX founder Jason Lee had previously worked at world-renowned fragrance house Givaudan before striking out on his own with SIX. The label currently has three fragrances in its stable – 123 Tribeca, 1724 Puka and 27°F Biel – each inspired by a location and the emotions that it incites. Two home fragrances are also available for those who like their homes to smell as cool as the interiors.

What we like
From the urban chic of New York-inspired 123 Tribeca to the meditative freshness of 27°F Biel, we love ‘em all. Best yet, you can travel with all three in minimalist style thanks to the Collectible Gift Set featuring mini sprays of all three scents at a reasonable $26.
